If you’ve been on TikTok often, you’d know about Qiwiie, the pretty TikTok teacher that we thought was from Singapore (due to her accent, of course), but was apparently from Malaysia.

Wait, it’s just me?

(Did I just reveal my FYP preferences?)

The popular TikToker has 1.5 million followers, and her videos are usually about her conversations with her students—rather wholesome for a quick feel-good moment. It helps that she’s good-looking, something that we hope we have when we were students (did I just reveal something else again?).

She’s so popular, she was even noticed by Uncle Roger:

The celebrity teacher’s real name is Shi Qi, and other than her 1.5 million followers on TikTok, she has 678k followers on Instagram.

She teaches in a Kuala Lumpur private school, and it should be noted that similar to Singapore, private secondary schools are also regulated by the Education Ministry, just that unlike public schools, they do not have to comply with certain rules.

If you’re thinking of asking her about the differences between public and private school in Malaysia, tough luck: she has just been “cancelled”.

Kind of.

Here’s what happened.

Popular TikTok Teacher, Shi Qi AKA Qiwiie, Got “Cancelled” for Violating Students’ Privacy

I guess you know what’ll happen when you’ve a teacher doing TikTok videos with the students as contents.

And no, it’s not about filming students’ reactions without permission. In the many videos she posted, there hadn’t been any complaints.

However, finally, someone complained about a video, and then shit hit the fan.

It all started when a Twitter user re-uploaded a video of Qiwiie going through students’ bags during break time when no one was around. In it, she then found gummies in the bags, took them and eat them.

Apparently, it was a sponsored content—most probably from the company marketing the gummies. It can’t be from the National Thief Association, right?

Pretty sure you’d have guessed what went wrong in the video.

The Twitter user tagged Malaysia’s Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek, saying that she received the video from WhatsApp.

The post has being deleted (read on and you’d understand).

Qiwiie was made aware of this, and she immediately removed the video, stating, “I would like to apologise to the parents and individuals who were offended by a recent video I posted. I am really sorry. The video was sponsored content. It was filmed during break time and I placed the gummies into the bags before the shoot. I looked through the student’s bags, took out a gummy and ate it.”

Now, here’s the thing: She also added that if she were to include any students in her video, she would always seek permission from both the students and their parents.

That is true because after the Twitter user reposted the video, someone Tweeted this:

She said she’s the parent of a student, and had given Qiwiie permission to make a video with her daughter—but she hasn’t given permission to the Twitter user to post it on Twitter.

In this latest saga, it’s, however, not a matter of the students, but the direction of the content, for it appears that she was invading the students’ privacy, and also was indeed “stealing” from the bags.

She then removed “all videos with children” from her TikTok account, which is basically all her videos lah, because it’s like an influencer removing all videos of her humblebragging.

The Education Minister has since responded, saying that whenever there’s a complaint, they will investigate, and might consider appropriate actions if required.
