Hair Salon Responds to Viral TikTok Video That Claims They Charge $12 Instead of the Advertised $10

QQ House Accused of Charging $12 for $10 Haircut

For those who regularly scroll through TikTok, there’s a good chance you’ve stumbled upon a video that recently went viral, racking up over 61,000 views. The video captures a tense moment in a hair salon, QQ House, where a woman, presumably the mother of a young boy, angrily confronts someone, accusing the salon of swindling $2 from an “innocent kid”.

Another woman in the salon tries to pacify the incensed mother, dismissing the incident as a “small matter”. However, the mother remains steadfast in her confrontation, expressing her “surprise” that a hairdresser could “cheat” a child out of $2.

Demanding an explanation, she questions why the bill was $12 instead of the advertised $10, before the video abruptly ends. Notably, a large standee in the background prominently displays a “$10” price tag.

The video, which has just been removed by the TikToker but has been re-uploaded by others, sparked a flurry of mixed reactions online, with some criticizing the salon for alleged false advertising, and others arguing that the mother’s reaction was overblown.

Two days after the video surfaced, QQ House, the salon embroiled in the controversy, issued a response.

In a detailed statement on their Facebook page, QQ House explained the delay in their response, stating they needed time to thoroughly investigate the incident by reviewing CCTV footage and interviewing the staff involved.

According to the salon, on August 23, the boy visited QQ House for a haircut and was attended by a senior hairstylist. The stylist assessed that, due to the length of the boy’s hair, a $12 ticket would be necessary—a price to which the boy agreed.

The prices of the different tickets can be seen when customers buy the tickets:

The haircut proceeded without incident until around 4:45pm when the boy’s mother returned to the salon, visibly distressed.

She questioned the price increase compared to their past visits and expressed dissatisfaction with the length of her son’s hair. Despite a language barrier, the stylist made efforts to defuse the situation by explaining the salon’s pricing structure—which varies based on hair length and desired style—and offering to trim the boy’s hair further at no extra cost.

QQ House emphasized that this pricing model is standard across many salons and is clearly displayed beside the ticketing machine, allowing customers to make an informed decision before proceeding with their haircut.

The salon refuted the dishonesty accusations stemming from the 19-second video clip shared online, asserting that the clip did not capture the entire incident and was misleadingly taken out of context. Anyone who has seen the video will note that it was cut off before the staff could offer an explanation

Nonetheless, QQ House acknowledged the need to improve its pricing list to avoid future misunderstandings and extended an apology for the incident.
