Another day, another road accident or ten. This one, however, appeared to escalate from a simple collision to a hit-and-run.
Also, this specific car might make up a good portion of those figurative ten, based on what we’ve found.
Range Rover Commits Hit-and-Run Involving 3 Other Vehicles
The video was uploaded to the SG Road Vigilante (SGRV) Facebook page, occurring on 20 July at allegedly 7:15 pm.
The dashcam video showed a Land Rover Range Rover Evoque (which we’ll be calling a Range Rover for this article) driving down Ang Mo Kio (AMK) Avenue 1.
It weaved between lanes a little strangely, but nothing too out of the ordinary.
For some reason, the footage had a filter that made everything look orange, like a Hollywood movie set in Mexico.
A line of cars stopped in the second lane for a red light at the junction between AMK Avenue 1 and Marymount Road.
The Range Rover appeared to try to drive around them and filter to the lane on their right but misjudged the distance and lane-changed into a collision with a Trans-cab instead.
The Trans-cab was knocked forward into a lorry, which in turn rear-ended a white car in front of it.
Causing a chain collision is pretty bad in itself.
The Range Rover then made it worse by picking up speed and fleeing the scene, turning a bad accident into a hit-and-run.
To hit the hat-trick of mistakes, the offending car then appeared to run the junction’s red light. Or orange light with this dashcam.
The taxi sustained some severe damage to its rear, with one corner nearly torn off by the crash. There was no way to ascertain the damage to the lorry and the white car.
SGRV alleged in the video’s caption that the motorists affected in the chain collision included an elderly couple and a baby, although this is unconfirmed.
They had reported the incident to the Traffic Police.
The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) told Goody Feed that they were alerted to the accident at 7:25 pm.
The SCDF arrived at the scene and conveyed four people to the hospital.
Same Rover Spotted Driving Dangerously in 3 Other Videos
If you’re wondering whether this was just some sort of one-off thing, you’d be wrong.
SGRV had shared the offending car’s license number, which we kept confidential, but this exact Range Rover had already been involved in three separate cases of dangerous driving in just May 2024.
On 16 May, the orange Rover was waiting behind a stationary car at New Bridge Road when it drove forward and rear-ended that vehicle.
Strange, but fairly minor as far as accidents go.
On 27 May, the Range Rover actually drove against the flow of traffic on Republic Avenue.
On 31 May, the same Range Rover was spotted at Still Road in the Katong region, where the driver ticked off a bucket’s list worth of traffic violations.
Firstly, it failed to keep in its own lane at a junction, forcing the camcar to slow down.
Next, instead of forming up on the right-hand lane to make a right turn, the car instead made the turn from the three lanes to the left.
The car also stopped at a green light for vehicles going straight ahead, before then making the right turn when the red light for vehicles turning right was showing.
Many netizens were shocked not only at the reckless driving on display but also at the fact that the driver was still on the road two months after the trio of videos.
Given the four injuries in the AMK hit-and-run, it might be the most serious one yet by this serial road offender.
Our Traffic Police have usually been on the ball with arresting hit-and-run drivers, so hopefully we’ll see the Range Rover off the road for a while.
