Sexual assault can happen anywhere, at any time, to anyone. Sometimes, it is caused by a stranger, and sometimes, it is caused by the people whom we trust the most.
Man Allegedly Threatened to Rape & Hurt His Wife
On 17 October 2020, at around 2pm, a woman called the police and told them that she was being threatened by her 31-year-old husband with a knife.
The call came from Block 102 Aljunied Crescent, and police officers were immediately sent to investigate.
Through investigations, they found out that the couple had an argument that led to the man pouring shampoo on his wife’s head intending to cause harm. The shampoo then entered the woman’s eyes, causing her eyes to burn.
The man also hit her with a towel, tore her clothes, and threatened to rape her. He even threatened that he would get his friends to rape her as well.
As if this wasn’t enough of a threat, he also held his wife at knifepoint, pushing her face left and right.
After the police report was made, the man was hunted down and arrested on 24 October.
If he is convicted of voluntarily causing hurt, he will be sentenced to a jail term of three years and would have to pay a fine of S$5,000. If convicted of using criminal force, he will be sentenced to three months’ jail and fined S$1,500. If convicted of criminal intimidation, he will be sentenced to two years in jail.
Other Similar Incidents
Unfortunately, this isn’t the first time someone abused the trust someone else had in them and committed indecent acts.
A 20-year-old man was sentenced to eight years’ jail and six strokes of the cane after he raped his ex-fiancee without a condom when she was home alone and threatened to impregnate her. This incident left her with such deep emotional trauma that she thought of committing suicide.
A 54-year-old man was also charged after he threatened his ex-girlfriend with a knife to expose her nude pictures. Thankfully, another woman stepped in and called the police so that he could be arrested.
