Revolut services in Singapore were disrupted on Tuesday (20 October), affecting card payments, ATM withdrawals and currency exchange during an outage at Google Cloud’s London region.
By around 5am on Wednesday (21 October), Revolut’s Singapore status page displayed “All systems are operational”.
Disruption Continued Into Tuesday Night
CNA’s checks at 6:30pm on Tuesday found all 27 services listed on Revolut’s Singapore status page marked as partially unavailable. The page indicated that issues had first been detected at about 3:50pm.
The affected services were still partially unavailable when CNA checked again at around 10:50pm.
Responding to CNA, a Revolut spokesperson said the company had been working to fix the disruption since identifying it that morning, UK time.
The spokesperson also assured customers that their money and data were safe. Revolut separately told CNA, on background, that the disruption involved a third-party provider and affected other companies too.
Google Identified a Power Problem in London
Google’s official incident record said a power problem caused an outage in one zone within its London cloud region, known as europe-west2. Services elsewhere within that region could also experience errors and intermittent network problems.
The incident began at 2:08pm Singapore time on Tuesday. Google recorded recovery for most workloads by 8:10pm and listed the incident as ending at 10pm.
However, its subsequent update said a very small number of customers were still believed to be affected, with engineers continuing to work on those cases. Google said it would publish an analysis after completing its investigation.
