Maybe on a particular day, you decided to buy a tub of ice cream.
Through a bunch of reasons, you forget about it months down and the line and when you get to it, it’s already expired.
But it doesn’t look or smell bad.
The real question is: will you risk eating it?
Most of us would be cautious and just throw it away, but what happens when something tastes funny even before that best-before date?
Ribena Recalling Bottles That Reportedly Taste Different
You may want to check if you own the following bottles.
It’s reported that batches of the Ribena Blackcurrant Fruit Cordial drinks have been taken off shelves.
The ones seemingly affected are the 1L and 2L bottles that have expiry dates between 17 Aug 2021 to 16 Oct 2021.
But affected by what exactly?
Well, some customers reported changes in appearance and taste before the drink hit the expiration date.
So, yeah, if you have one of these, holding off on it might be a good idea.
Unless you want to be a hero and do the taste comparison yourself.
Official Statement From Ribena
Suntory Beverage & Food Singapore, the company who owns Ribena, made an official statement regarding this incident on Wednesday, 11 Nov.
They’ve also uploaded it to Facebook.
They mentioned that so far, only a small percentage of the aforementioned bottles seem affected.
Investigations are ongoing, and Suntory has withdrawn all their Ribena Blackcurrant Fruit Cordial bottles.
And I know what you’re thinking: some of us might be afraid to taste and check if our drinks taste different.
Just to be safe, you can contact Suntory’s consumer hotline at 1800-645-9551 or send an email to [email protected].
The following picture also shows how to locate each bottle’s expiration date.
Let’s not risk our stomachs contracting anything unnecessary.
Not The First Time Products Were Withdrawn
Unfortunately, this isn’t the first time Ribena had something like this happen.
You may recall back in August 2017, several Ribena Concentrate products had to be recalled due to a manufacturing error.
This happened in both Singapore and Malaysia.
During a preliminary investigation, Suntory revealed that some affected products were exposed to air during bottling.
This meant that those bottles were likely to spoil before their printed expiration date.
Several batches of the following items were withdrawn:
- Ribena Concentrate Blackcurrant & Strawberry
- Ribena Concentrate Blackcurrant & Apple
- Ribena Concentrate and Glucose
- Ribena Concentrate Blackcurrant
Suntory had to temporarily cease deliveries for all Ribena cordial drinks to its distributors and trading partners.
