Remember Roy Ngerng?
For a quick refresher, he’s the blogger that was charged in 2015 with the defamation of Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong. He accused Mr Lee of misappropriation of monies from the Central Provident Fund, comparing him disfavorably to the City Harvest Church leaders. Found guilty of defamation, Roy Ngerng had to pay up $150,000 in damages to Mr Lee.
Mr Ngerng then joined a Reform Party Team to contest against the Prime Minister in the Ang Mo Kio constituency, losing with only 21.4% of votes.
As of May 2021, Mr Ngerng has paid off his hefty damages to Mr Lee, with a large portion backed by crowdfunding efforts.

He migrated to Taiwan in 2016, and now, he’s putting his activist efforts forth there.
Minimum Wage Activism
Recently, it’s been clear that Mr Ngerng is a staunch advocate for the increase of the minimum wage in Taiwan. His articles on The News Lens are all on the inadequacy and unsustainability of the present minimum wage in Taiwan, and how an increase would create greater social good.
He also writes on other measures to further labour rights in Taiwan, like the increase of required labour insurance premiums, or more rights for labour unions.
He also posted pictures of him at physical protests for better worker’s rights.
In spite of his migration to Taiwan, Mr Ngerng is also still acutely concerned with the politics of Singapore, frequently reposting and commenting on current affairs in Singapore on his Facebook page.
It’s evident that Mr Ngerng has a penchant for being embroiled in political controversy. Well, as long as he doesn’t commit libel again, I guess.
