Rui En, the prolific actress who has recently made the headlines for a controversial incident, won her All Time Favourite Artiste Award on Sunday night (Apr 17). It was a bittersweet moment for her in the Awards ceremony.
The controversy took place at the worst time ever, and some people were even wondering if she will turn up for the event. Well, she did, and not just that, she took the opportunity to show her remorse for the recent controversy.
Say what you will about her, at least she stood on that stage and took it like a man (or woman, in this case). So, here’s her most heartfelt Thank-You (And Sorry) speech she made after collecting her award. Translated into English for non-Chinese speakers out there, please forgive us if we have mangled any names mentioned within her speech:
“Thank you for giving this award to me. This year is an important milestone in my career, and it is also one of the most difficult tests I have to face in my life.
To be a good actress, not only do you have to act well, you have to portray your best side to everyone at any given point in time as well.
For a straightforward person like me who is unable to hide my emotions, there will be times where misunderstandings about me will occur. Actually, even now, I am still wondering if I am really suitable for showbiz.
As investigations have not been concluded on the recent incident, I seek your forgiveness for being unable to respond to any inquiries from the media. I would like to apologize for all the inconvenience and unhappiness that I have caused.
For the past 14 years, a lot of people have shown me care and support. Thank you for your unconditional love for me. Thank you.
I would like to thank Hype Records’ Ken Lim, John, Elly, Zinc, Malvis. No matter what happened or what I did, they have always supported me. This is something I will remember for life.
Mediacorp’s Mr Shaun Seow, Ms Doreen Neo, Mr Chang Long Jong, Mr Paul Yuen, all the directors and other staff I have worked with, thank you for your patience and guidance. I will remember you forever.
Finally, I want to thank my fans, RBKD. For all these years, you have stood at my side, and shown me never-ending love and support. Thank you.
Thank you Lord for walking me through this. Thank you, and I’m sorry.”
At the end of her speech, she gave a deep bow to the audience.
