Usually, you wouldn’t think much of 9-year-olds.

Definitely snotty brats, you presume presumptuously. Probably still wetting their beds and leeching off their parents’ hard-earned money.

And then you encounter the Youtube sensation that’s Ryan Kaji – a 9-year-old phenomenon who earns a staggering S$40 million a year.

Well, that’s one 9-year-old kid you’ll never belittle, that’s for sure.

9-YO YouTuber Continues to Be the Highest-Paid YouTuber, Earning About S$40 Million in 2020

Child influencer Ryan Kaji has placed first in Forbes’ list of highest-paid YouTubers for the third time running…

At the tender age of just… nine years old.

Apparently, he earned nearly US$30 million (S$40 million) this year.

Let me just write my resignation letter and get some kids’ toys real quick.

Now lest you’re unaware, Ryan is a YouTube sensation who reviews toys and games on his channel.

Called Ryan’s World, the account boasts over 27.6 million subscribers, and a whopping 12.2 billion views.

His most popular video to date, “Huge Eggs Surprise Toys Challenge”, accounts for more than two billion views, and is ranked within the top 60 of the most-viewed videos ever on Youtube.

More Than Just “Unboxing” Videos

Ryan’s “unboxing” videos may have earned a cool US$29.5 million, but they form a mere percentage of his entire repertoire.

Apart from “unboxing” videos, the child influencer also retails his own line of branded merchandise at Target, Amazon and Walmart – where he raked in US$200 million in sales in 2019.

And to cap things off, he has partnered up with children’s channel Nickelodeon for an all-new series called Ryan’s Mystery Playdate.

Just goes to show that wherever you go, there’s always a Ryan who’s more proficient than you.

Boosted By The Pandemic

According to Forbes, the coronavirus pandemic has boosted income for YouTube, with the top 10 earners on its list raking in an estimated US$211 million from June 2019 to June 2020 – a 30 per cent increase from the last year.

Other prominent earners on the list include Mr Beast, child star Anastasia Radzinskaya, comedian David Dobrik, make-up guru Jeffree Star and game reviewer Markiplier.

Yet, even with the windfall in mind, it appears that the pandemic is still one that’s better off non-existent.

“I just can’t wait until we can go back outside,” Ryan said.

Thankfully, ongoing vaccination plans will soon make that notion a reality again, with the UK already rolling out a number of Pfizer vaccines.

Other nations are expected to follow suit in due time, with Singapore possibly getting its first shipment by the end of this month.
