Would you lock your own 5 month-old baby in a car for 20 minutes? Just by himself?
Probably not.
But that’s exactly what a certain father in Singapore did
On August 13, a Sunday night, the Singapore Civil Defence Force were called in to rescue a five-month-old child, who had been locked in a parked car at Tampines Street 23.
Facebook user Fizah Jamal posted a video of the entire incident on Facebook, and it has since collected over 100k views and 1.4k shares.
In the near 11-minute video, SCDF officers were spotted analysing the car, before the father of the child came to unlock the car and take him out.
A woman can be heard berating him for being so careless, and said that the child was “screaming”.
“How can you do that?” she asked him.
“I have a baby the same age. I have heard of so many cases of babyies dying inside the car (sic). You left the baby inside for 20 minutes. We happened to pass by. How can you leave the baby like that?”
And netizens were enraged.
SCDF said that it was alerted to a call asking for assistance at 9 pm at Block 201E Tampines Street 23. The defence force then promptly dispatched an ambulance, a fire bike and a Red Rhino to the location.
Paramedics were on hand to examine the child once he was carried out, and they’ve certified him unhurt.
According to SCDF, a forced entry into the car wasn’t necessary.
Here’s What Might Happen If You Leave Your Baby In The Car
Leaving children or pets alone in cars is completely stupid. The temperature inside tends to rise quickly, putting them in danger of suffocation or a heat stroke.
According to health professionals in Abu Dhabi, 20 minutes could actually be fatal for children locked in cars.
Children are unable to regulate their body temperature as well as adults, which is why they face suffocation or a heat stroke if trapped inside a car for long.
Imagine if it had been in the day – the child could have been in serious danger.
A Mother Charged For Abandoning Two Toddlers In a Car Overnight
In June, two Texas toddlers actually died after being left in a car overnight, and the mother was charged with two counts of abandoning or endangering a child.
So the father could have potentially faced the law should something have happened to his child.
I can’t pretend to understand what the father was thinking when he decided to lock his 5 month-old child in the car – he could have had something important to attend to, something urgent.
But none of that validates what he did unless you’re telling me that his loved one was in danger and he had to go into action WHICH is highly improbable.
Locking a helpless child in your car isn’t funny. Tragedies do happen.
Hopefully, after getting scolded, he would wise up and learn NOT to leave his children in the car alone anymore.
What about you? What do you think about this whole… ‘fiasco’?
