It appears that molestation cases are on the rise…
With male victims becoming ever more prominent as well.
Man Allegedly Molested By SCDF Officer In An Ambulance
According to The Straits Times, a Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) officer molested a male colleague in an ambulance last October.
The accused has since left the agency.
According to the news report, the pair was in a parked ambulance at around 8:50 a.m. on 31 October 2020, when the accused reportedly went for a kiss.
Five minutes later, he repeated the act.
The accused also allegedly initiated “insulting communication” by inviting the victim to his “place to enjoy”.
Suffice to say; the gesture was not reciprocated.
Accused
The alleged offender, a 61-year-old man, has since been confronted with two counts of molestation and a harassment charge.
His bail was set at S$10,000.
The trial will continue on 18 August, where he is expected to plead guilty.
For molestation, an offender can face an imprisonment term of up to two years, a fine or caning.
Due to his age, however, he does not have to face caning. Those over 50 cannot be caned.
Meanwhile, the SCDF has confirmed the incident, and expressed that it’s taking the matter very seriously.
It also added: “Upon being alerted that such an incident might have taken place, we immediately conducted an internal investigation. We promptly lodged a police report after our investigation, and removed the alleged offender from duties and placed him on administrative leave pending police investigation.
“We also provided counselling to the alleged victim… SCDF is unable to comment further, as court proceedings are ongoing.”
Worse Instances
Unfortunately, the aforementioned case is far from being the worst in recent times.
On Thursday (1 Apr), 21-year-old Malaysian Clement Tan Jun Yan was sentenced to 18 months in jail on the same day for molesting two underage males.
The young man pleaded guilty to two counts of molestation involving two boys and another two similar charges were considered during his sentencing, reported CNA.
He had followed his first victim—a 15-year-old boy—home from Yishun Bus Interchange after taking a liking to him. He sat next to the boy on the bus.
They alighted near a block of flats in Yishun, to which Tan proceeded to molest him. When the boy was about the exit the lift, Tan blocked the way and touched the victim’s genitals over his shorts.
And on 23 October at about 6:50 am, Tan boarded the same bus as the victim, who was on the way to school.
Just like his first victim, Tan sat next to the secondary schoolboy on the bus. He also placed his hand on the boy’s shoulder. When his hand was pushed away, he draped his left arm around the boy’s shoulder instead.
When the victim stood up to leave his seat, Tan squeezed his buttocks over his clothes. He repeated it a second time when the young boy was walking away.
