When it comes to social media, the folks at SCDF has it down pat.

In fact, if they were to ever get sick of saving lives, they’ll probably be able to make a comfortable living being an online marketer.

Just look at the kidnap meme they came up with in response to the GO-JEK incident.

Or their epic April Fool’s joke that left Singaporeans stunned like bananas.

And Now, They’ve Done It Again

With that, you know they just had to get involved in the Chinese New Year festivities.

Which they did.

Through a video so heartwarming you might just cry.

On the eve of Chinese New Year, not everybody gets to go home and have a nice reunion dinner with their family.

After all, the SCDF works 24 hours every day.

But even so, these unsung heroes are not alone.

The video starts with a voice message telling one of the SCDF personnel that reunion dinner isn’t the same without him.

Despite that, these group of on-duty SCDF personnel shared a simple steamboat dinner together.

Then, they started singing a rendition of the popular Chinese New Year song, Gong Xi Gong Xi.

You’ll get to see real, actual emergency responders acting, singing and playing the guitar in the four-minute video.

And when you think about how even this simple steamboat dinner might be interrupted by an emergency, this video becomes even more poignant.

Praises From The Netizens

Within less than a week, the video has garnered over 665 shares, over 1.1k reactions and 39k views. Which, given Facebook’s new algorithm, is a pretty good result.

And Singaporeans are praising SCDF for their amazingly well-put-together video.

Thank you for your sacrifices.

Thank you for keeping us safe and sound

And of course, if you’ve noticed, SCDF’s video is a natural promotion for racial harmony too. Kind of like Goody Feed, whereby information is being re-packaged through entertainment (my boss forces me to include this line).

You have non-Chinese personnel singing in Mandarin that’s way better than what I can muster any time of the day.

And how they try to take care of their people who are not able to go home in time for their yearly reunion dinner.

And Of Course, Some Useful Reminders For The Public

The SCDF would like to remind members of the public that the emergency hotline, 995, is for emergencies only.

And that the various hospitals’ A&E are meant for accident and emergency cases.

If you find yourself feeling unwell over the CNY holidays, there are another 1,014 GP clinics available to go to for medical attention.
