There are moments in life when you couldn’t even see what hit you.
Like, when you kena arrow by your boss or when an E-Scooter hits you on the road. Or, when you forgot to turn off the germicidal lamp after cleaning your classrooms.
In case you have no idea what a germicidal lamp is, it is a special type of lamp which produces UV light, leading to the inactivation of bacteria, viruses, and protozoa.
Now, if you still remember anything from your science classes back in school, you should know that the human eyes cannot detect UV light and that UV light is the culprit causing your skin to burn at the end of a beach day.
So, it’s really something you wouldn’t see coming!
Such was the case for the 37 trainee teachers at KLC International Institute. On 27 Dec, after having their lessons inside a dance room, 24 of the trainee teachers reported feeling unwell, with at least 6 of them showing signs of sunburn and swollen eyes.
(Can’t say that I’ve ever heard of sunburn cases while indoors!)
The class monitor, Gao Yuan, said that she had to see a doctor as her eyes were swollen. That was also the first them all 37 of them had to travel to KLC International Institute for lessons as they were required to attend a dance class.
However, the dance room was very dusty and a cleaner was then dispatched to clean up the place.
Gao Yuan also added that her eyes started feeling uncomfortable during the second half of the lessons.
Initially, Gao Yuan suspected that this was due to her staring at the screen for too long. However, she soon realized that she wasn’t alone.
One of the classmates then said that the germicidal lamp was turned on the whole time they were inside the room. Shen then suggested that everyone should go see a doctor.
Now, hang on there. Why didn’t the classmate alert every one of the lamp then? Did she really think that nothing’s gonna happen?
According to Gao Yuan, 5 other classmates also went to the hospital seeking medical attention. KLC International Institute then admitted to the UV lights being left on at that point in time.
Now, I don’t know about you, but this is indeed a horrible way to be sunburned. I mean, shouldn’t a sunburn be the price you pay for a day at the beach?
