So you have just received your O level or iGCSE results and you are not sure which path to take. Sure, you want to follow your friends to the same Polytechnic course, but somehow studying 4 long years does not sound very appealing to you.
Neither do you want to risk 2 years of your life in a JC and get results that are not as great because of all the scary A level tales you’ve heard.
Well, if your mind has been filled with these thoughts lately, here’s a hack for you where you can skip all these steps and enter a university ahead of your peers.
Foundation Year
Instead of going through the long procedures, fast-tracking through the foundation programme prepares you for a university education ahead of your peers.
What’s a foundation programme?
A foundation year pathway is a programme around 6 – 12 months that you can take at an overseas university or college of your choice before progressing towards your desired degree! So you really do get to skip ahead of your peers in terms of the time you take to take a degree.
Plus, you don’t have to be afraid of not being able to get into a university – a constant problem all students would face!
The best part? You can get to choose from renowned universities from the Group Of Eight which includes institutions like, The University of Melbourne, The University of Queensland, Monash University, The University of Sydney, UNSW Australia, The University of Adelaide, The University of Western Australia, Australian National University.
What are the types of majors or courses I can choose from?
You can pick and choose from your desired range of stream: Law, Art, Media, Business, Finance, Science, Engineering, Medicine, Psychology, Architecture.
Other specializations can also include 3D Design, Graphic Arts, Health Science, Hospitality, Interior Design, IT and Network, Management, Maritime, and Marketing, etc!
Are there any pre-requisites in order to be qualified for this?
You need to at least have an O-level certificate. Granted, you will require specific grades to enter each course, but it all depends on the types of courses you’ve chosen!
There might also be prerequisites that apply to certain professional courses like Pharmacy or Medicine. For example, you must have taken Chemistry in order to qualify for them. Same goes for some Business Degrees which require Foundation students to take up Math as a subject if Math is a pre-requisite for all their international applicants!
Is it expensive?
The cost will range from 20k – 40k but hey, for some, accommodation is also included!
How do I go about signing up for the foundation course?
For more information on whether you are eligible for the foundation course or how you can apply for it, you can also visit the IDP Overseas University Expo on 11th and 12th March 2017 at Orchard Hotel, 11am – 4:30pm!
