Schools Will be Distributing TraceTogether Tokens to Students; Gov Producing 5 Million Tokens by End-Feb

Phase 2 is soon to be nothing more than a trace of this past as we move together to phase 3.

Especially since we’ve hit a pretty big milestone recently.

For those unaware, we’ve recently hit the 70% usage point for TraceTogether that was originally needed to enter phase 3.

So…maybe those abysmal collection queues were worth it?

Regardless, the government is planning to make sure the tokens are going to be readily available.

And if you’re a student, you likely don’t need to rush to get one.

Minister-in-Charge of the Smart Nation Initiative Vivian Balakrishnan announced that schools will be distributing them to students.

He also says that orders for the tokens have increased and wants to have five million tokens ready by the end of February.

So no need to panic, since pretty much everyone is going to get one.

As of 21 Dec, a total of roughly 1.75 million tokens have been given out.

However, do note that once school reopens, you won’t be denied entry if you do not have the app or token.

This is because TraceTogether-only SafeEntry won’t be enforced until everyone has the app or token, which will take place in early 2021.

Children under six are also not required to have the token or app since they’re usually accompanied by an adult.

Though you may want to make a habit of bringing the token or turning the app on when you go out.

How The App and Token Works

Dr Balakrishnan said that despite the numerous designs that they will all function the same way.

Which, if you want to know more, can check out our YouTube video down below:

The app and token will exchange short-distance Bluetooth signals between devices, detecting other users who are nearby.

This proximity data is encrypted and stored for 25 days before being deleted.

With other conditions like safe-management compliance and adequate testing capabilities being met, we can now truly enter phase 3.

Looking Ahead To Phase 3

There’s plenty of changes coming when it finally hits on 28 Dec.

For one, social gathering sizes will go from five to eight people.

This also applies to households too as each can now receive up to 8 visitors.

There will be an increase in limits for all congregational and other worship services.

Live performances in the Arts and Culture sector may be resumed as well.

And as mentioned, TraceTogether-only SafeEntry will be implemented only when everyone has had a chance to collect a token at a Community Club or Centre in their constituency.

Regular SafeEntry measures will still be in place until then.
