Tell anyone the name “Ang Soon Tong” nowadays and he or she might just say, “Who’s that?”
Well, not for this man.
This video has gone viral after Facebook Page Singapore Uncensored posted it last week, garnering well over 133K views and over 1.5K Shares.
If you’ve had no two minutes to spare, here’s a brief idea of what happened: in the video, the security guard was having an argument with someone, presumably due to work.
The context of the conversation isn’t clear, but he seemed angry with some pay issue.
In the expletive-laden conversation, it seemed like an innocent argument every security guard would have gone through, but it was these few sentences that made it to the headlines: “Eh, Ang Soon Tong lah….late (dead) man of Ang Soon Tong, okay!”
Here’s the thing: Ang Soon Tong is a secret society that has been active since the 1950s in Singapore and Malaysia. In fact, it even has a Wikipedia Page, and according to its page, their primary area is in Sembawang.
Pretty close to Yishun (sorry, can’t resist).
Apparently, with the video making the rounds in social media, he was arrested yesterday (29 August 2017) for allegedly being a member of an unlawful society.
If found guilty of being in Ang Soon Tong, he could face up to three years’ imprisonment or/and fine up to $5,000.
Despite that, comments on social media aren’t just about Ang Soon Tong, but on the plight of the guard.
Many have interpreted the conversation as him being the victim due to “delayed pay”.
Now, if that is true, that MOM should arrest his superior, no?
