Selected Kopitiam Having Nasi Lemak & Chicken Rice Bingsu

I’ve said it a few million times, and I’m going to say it again.

Days of feeding your stomach have become part of history: nowadays, kids go to hip cafes to feed their ego Instagram.

In 2018, it doesn’t matter if a food tastes like my colleague’s poop mixed with rotten milk. As long as it looks good on Instagram, people would still buy it.

And even hawkers are going this direction, so it’s no surprise that Kopitiam, the pinky chain that got into headlines recently for its sale to NTUC Foodfare, is jumping onto the bandwagon.

Think they’re just getting more millennial hawkers into their ranks?

Nope, they’ve gone up one level.

Because of this.

Now, if you can’t see it, I’ve taken the liberty to slice the image out for your enjoyment,

Introducing…Nanyang Style Bingsu.

Like Nasi Lemak Bingsu:

Hainanese Chicken Rice Ball Bingsu:

And of course, your Malaysian friend’s favourite, the Assam Laksa Bingsu:

Yeah, I kid you not. This poster was seen in Compass One Kopitiam and it’s legit.

Each of these Instagram-worthy bingsu doesn’t come cheap: at $7.90, it’s the cost of almost three packs of chicken rice. But of course there’s a 20% discount now, though we’re not sure when the promotion would end.

Disclaimer: We don’t know how it tastes

Because like what I’ve said one million and one times before, the taste is irrelevant as long as it’s Instagram-worthy. But I’m going to go out on a limb and guess that it tastes just like any other bingsu: the only difference is its look.

Like what I’ve said one million and two times before, the visual is all it matters.

Nevertheless, if anyone has tried it before, do contact us and we’ll be glad to copy and paste your entire review here #saveustimeandmoneyandcalories

Bingsu in Selected Kopitiam

Lest you’re not aware, there are several Kopitiam outlets that sell Bingsu.

We cannot confirm if this is available in all those outlets with Bingsu, though. A check on all Kopitiam social media platforms didn’t result in anything relevant, and we’ve not received any media release pertaining to this.

Our source can only confirm it’s in Compass One, so as usual, if anyone of you come across it elsewhere, do inform us and we’ll thank you by sending you some ice cubes.

According to our previous article (it’s been a while so I can 201% confirm there are changes liao), these are were the Kopitiam outlets with Bingsu:

  • Thiong Bahru Plaza
  • Compass One
  • Lau Pa Sat
  • Northpoint

Oh, yeah, you’re welcome.
