Mental health issues should not be dismissed.

Though signs of dire mental health may admittedly not be as ‘obvious’ as their physical health counterparts, they are just as, if not even more, lethal in the long run.

And like end-stage cancer, mental health issues could also lead to an abrupt end. The only difference?

Cancer does it for you, while mental health issues have you doing it yourself.

Girl Sits on Staircase Railings Between 26th & 27th Floor of SengKang HDB; Arrested After 3 Hours

According to various news reports, a 19-year-old woman has been apprehended under the Mental Health Act.

Apparently, she had sat atop the staircase railings between the 26th and 27th floor of a Sengkang HDB block, for no less than three hours.

At one point, she even lifted one of her legs over the railing.

According to Shin Min Daily News, she had allegedly used a nearby bicycle to haul herself up to the ledge.

The police and the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) swiftly turned up after receiving a call for assistance at Block 443C Fernvale Road at around 6.45pm.

The SCDF said: “Upon arrival, a person was seen sitting on a ledge of a stairwell.”

As a pre-emptive measure, a safety life air pack was set up at the foot of the HDB block.

Personnel from the Disaster Assistance and Rescue Team (DART) were also on standby.

The ordeal only ended after three gruelling hours.

Apparently, there was writing on a wall at the stairwell, with one of two sentences stating:

“I hate you.”

According to news reports, the girl was later sent to Sengkang General Hospital.
