There’s a general rule in nature that you might be aware of: The more beautiful a creature, the more dangerous it is.
That’s what a three-year-old girl experienced in Serangoon on 28 Nov 2021.
Pet Peacock in Serangoon House Attacked 3YO Girl & Caused a Deep Cut
On 28 Nov 2021, a 3-year-old girl was on her way home from Haus Park at Serangoon Gardens when she came across a beautiful peacock.
She was with her father and brother at that time.
According to the mother, the home is known for keeping a peacock and other poultry as pets, and children will always stop to take a look.
On that day, however, the peacock charged out and attacked the three-year-old girl.
The father, who saw the peacock preparing to attack, tried to protect his daughter, scrapping his knee and elbow.
The peacock allegedly charged towards the pair a few times, and the father also suffered scratches on his arm when trying to fend off the peacock .
In the end, it was the owner who broke up the tussle by grabbing the peacock’s tail and pulling it away.
Deep Cut On The Face
The three-year-old girl suffered a deep cut on her face.
When she was rushed to the hospital, the parents were told that the wound was too deep.
They put the little girl under general anesthesia and stitched up her wound.
Thankfully, the little girl is recovering well.
NParks Investigating, Owners Allegedly Unapologetic
According to Straits Times, NParks is currently investigating the incident. It was not made clear, however, if peacocks are allowed to be kept as pets.
Meanwhile, the parents had gone back to the owners of the peacock and walked away with what seemed to be an unsatisfying outcome.
According to the mother, the owners are “unapologetic” as they did not think they should take responsibility for the incident.
The owners had allegedly checked with the Animal Veterinary Service (AVS) and lawyers, who agreed that it’s not their fault since the bird was free to roam within their compound.
It was also implied that the bird was provoked by the little girl as their CCTV showed the girl and her father peering into the compound.
Compensation, however, will still be made when the bill comes.

Peacocks Can Be Aggressive
The chairman of Nature Society’s bird group, Mr Tan Gim Cheong, said peacocks can be aggressive creatures.
He noted that there are incidents of peacocks attacking cars in Sentosa.
“They might attack anything that is striking or prominent to chase away what they believe is intruding on their territory.”
Here’s a tip he has for members of the public:
“If it is staring at you and giving you a lot of attention, it might want to charge, so it’s better to just steer clear.”
