Much like when your dog starts barking excitedly after a stranger knocks at your door, every time a fast food chain opens a new outlet in the country, Singaporeans lose their minds.
Even if they’re getting married, about to give birth, or taking an important examination, Singaporeans will literally drop everything and rush to a fast food restaurant the moment it opens.
Scientists who’ve studied this strange phenomenon have discovered that most Singaporeans don’t even have to be informed when a new eatery opens; they can sniff it out like a bloodhound.
And when they do, they wiggle their butts in excitement, howl at the moon, and dart out the door with their wallets in hand.
I’m not telling you all about Singaporeans’ love affair with fast food for nothing, of course. I have some exciting news for all the fast food lovers out there.
Shake Shack is Opening Yet Another Outlet in Suntec City
Wiggle your butts, howl at the moon, and prepare your wallets, because American burger joint Shake Shack is opening its fourth outlet in Singapore!
The branch will be located in Suntec City Mall in the West Wing near the convention centre.
The hoardings, which were unveiled on Monday (24 Aug), featured murals from the Ripple Root, the artist moniker of Liquan Liew and Estella Ng.
Their paintings showcase bougainvillaeas, triangular motifs evocative of the Suntec architecture, and splashes of water representing the iconic Fountain of Wealth.
Known for its juicy Angus beef burgers, chicken sandwiches, and flat-top Vienna beef dogs, Singaporeans have been enamoured with Shake Shack ever since it landed on our shores.
The popular burger chain has three other outlets, which are in Jewel Changi Airport, Neil Road, and Liat Tower in Orchard Road.
The exact date of their fourth store’s opening hasn’t been revealed yet.
Other F&B Eateries Not As Lucky
While Shake Shack is expanding its business, other F&B restaurants have had to close its doors.
Yes, sadly, many of our beloved eateries have folded due to the economic impact of the coronavirus.
This includes eateries like Hifumi Singapore, Plentyfull, and Teafolia.
Like many other F&B establishments, Shake Shack, too, had to close during the circuit breaker, as dining-in wasn’t allowed.
It did, however, allow takeaways, an option which Singaporeans made full use of.
Fortunately, our favourite burger joint isn’t going anywhere despite Covid-19.
And once their Suntec City outlet opens, you can bet your 15 bottles of hand sanitiser that it’ll be flooded with hungry residents.
