Sheltered Walkway in Punggol That Leads to Nowhere is Being Fixed After It Blew Up Online

The whole point of a sheltered walkway, as the name suggests, is to provide shelter while you walk.

Sure, some of you may run or jog, but that’s besides the point.

When it rains, these sheltered walkways provide unsuspecting residents with protection from the tiny water daggers falling from the sky.

Or at least, it’s supposed to.

“The Dumbest Design”

A few days ago, TikTok user @justmillenial shared a video of a clumsily designed sheltered walkway at Edgedale Plains in Punggol.

He called it “The Dumbest Design”, and you’ll soon see why.

Serving the residents of the HDB estate Waterway Sundew, the walkway stretches from the HDB blocks to the bus stop.

The only problem is that the sheltered walkway ends at the metal railings behind the bus stop.

This means that if it rains, residents will either have to pull out an umbrella, rush home to get one if they forgot, or quickly develop the ability to repel water.

They could also practice their standing broad jump and smash through the back of the bus stop, though that would create more problems than it solves.

Authorities’ Response

A netizen by the name of Mr Clement Kang responded to the TikTok post and mentioned that he emailed the town council about the matter last year.

The email sent in response by Punggol’s Housing Management Group was shared on Facebook.

One should note that the town council was informed by the netizen last year. And while they apologised for the inconvenience, the design flaw was left unrectified.

Until TikTok entered the picture, that is.

Flawed Sheltered Walkway Being Fixed After It Blew Up Online

Just three days after the video of the sheltered walkway that doesn’t provide sufficient shelter blew up online, construction workers were spotted fixing it.

The same TikTok user, @justmillenial, posted an update about the matter on Saturday (5 Dec).

Reply to @idayusani Shelter update: 2 days after posting the video there were people inspecting the bus stop. 3 days later they are fixing it!

According to the user, people were seen inspecting the bus stop just two days after the video went viral on social media.

Then, a day later, around five construction workers and plenty of orange cones were seen at the area where the sheltered walkway was supposed to end.

“Thanks for blowing this up TikTok, and thanks to everyone hard at work this weekend,” the user said.

Leave it to TikTok to get things done.

Maybe if we post cute videos of cats in HDB flats on TikTok it’ll finally become legal?
