Shilin Night Market from Taiwan Coming to S’pore in April 2019 with Taiwanese & Local Food

If you’ve been to Taipei, you’d have been to Shilin Night Market.

As one of the largest night markets in Taipei that’s within walking distance from a train station, it’s a must-go for any tourist simply because of its sheer size.

With well over 500 stalls, it’s famous for its bubble teas, stinky tofus, XXL chicken cutlets and basically everything Taiwan—though you’ve got to admit that you can actually get these from other night markets as well.

And let’s face it: if you’ve a Taipei regular, you might just go there once only to experience the atmosphere, and then go somewhere else in your next visit. Kind of like Sentosa in Singapore, but anyways.

Nevertheless, regular or not, you don’t need to travel all the way to Taipei to feel the vibes anymore because the market is coming to you.

Shilin Night Market Coming to Kranji

From 19 to 21 April 2019, and 26 April to 28 April 2019, the folks behind Artbox Singapore would be at it again: they’ll be bringing the well-loved Shilin Night Market concept to local shores for the very first time.

According to them, “patrons can look forward to lots of great food and drinks, shopping and a whole lot of fun and immersive experiences < 吃。逛。玩。樂。> at The Grounds@Kranji (Carpark B at Singapore Turf Club), where the night market will be held for two consecutive weekends.

“Besides Taiwanese vendors, you can also expect a multitude of stalls featuring products from local entrepreneurs, makers and creators, giving our Shilin Night Market a uniquely Singapore twist that’s not to be missed! Come try Taiwanese and Singaporean street delicacies and creative eats, visit pop up artisan stores, arcade games and even movie screenings – the list goes on.”

Oh, yeah. So other than Taiwan food, you might just find chicken rice and laksa there.

Cool.

What is The Grounds@Kranji?

If you’re a hipster who goes to every Instagram-worthy event, you might have been there before for the Let’s Go Jalan Jalan food and music festival last November.

It’s basically a large car park space that’s been transformed into a pasar malam space. Located near Kranji MRT Station, it seems to have become the to-go spot for hipster event.

If you’re driving there, do make sure you follow the signs correctly; one wrong turn and you could be up in SLE. I know because that was what happened to me when I was trying to get to Let’s Go Jalan Jalan (and just gave up altogether).

More Details Would Be Revealed Next Month

According to the media release, more details would be released next month, but they’ve set up an Instagram account and Facebook Event Page for us to stay updated.

In the meantime, if it’s anything like the first Artbox, be prepared to people-squeeze in the event.

And for drivers, there’s nothing beside Singapore Turf Club (no HDB, no nothing), so I’d highly suggest that you park at Yew Tee Point or Choa Chu Kang (Lot 1), and take the train there. You won’t want to drive there only to realize that there’s no more parking lot, and there’s no other option.
