At least S$83,000 has been lost in phishing scams involving fake SIMBA websites, with at least 62 cases reported since March 2026.
Police issued an advisory on Wednesday (21 October), warning of an increase in scams targeting people searching for the telco’s top-up services on Google.
Fake Sites Asked for Card Details and Approvals
Victims clicked on websites impersonating SIMBA that appeared among the top sponsored search results.
The sites asked for personal and banking information, including mobile numbers and bank card details. Victims were also prompted to provide digital token approval or one-time passwords (OTPs).
They discovered the scam after spotting unauthorised transactions on their cards.
Examples identified by police included `simba-sg.asia`, `simba.sg-fastrecharge.shop` and `simba.sg-topup.icu`. These were impersonation sites.
Check the Address Before Topping Up
Police warned that a website’s position at the top of search results, or its appearance as a sponsored advertisement, does not establish that it is genuine.
They advised users to access familiar websites through a saved bookmark or by typing the known address directly, and to check for misspellings, extra words or incorrect domains.
SIMBA’s official support website links its recharge service to https://topup.simba.sg.
Anyone who suspects they have fallen victim should contact their bank immediately to report and block fraudulent transactions, and lodge a police report.
