Lest you’re unaware, Singapore Airline‘s own food delivery service is officially up-and-running, having begun to accept orders since yesterday (5 October 2020).
Yet, one can’t help but wonder;
Just how well would this latest venture of SIA perform, considering how ‘exorbitant’ its fare may seem to some?
Well, lest you’re indeed wondering that…
It seems that there’s no cause for concern, as apparently, the airline actually received a whopping 57 orders within 14 hours yesterday.
SIA New Food Delivery That Starts from $258 for 2 Has 57 Orders in 14 Hours
According to Zaobao, Singapore Airline’s newest home dining service has seen some 57 orders in the span of just 14 hours.
Apparently, more than half opted for the first-class menu.
The statistic was revealed at a media tasting event held yesterday (5 October), and proves that there is demand for such ‘atas’ services.
Huang Biyu, vice president of the Customer Service and Design Division of Singapore Airlines, said, “People can’t travel abroad as they used to, but they can travel through different airplane meals and through their taste buds.”
And it seems that it’s only the start of something absolutely… great.
“Next, we will adjust or launch other culinary consultants based on the feedback from diners. The chef’s delicacies.”
For the record, SIA’s home dining service is one of many options under the “Discover Singapore Airlines” program.

Four Chefs, Seven Packages
According to KrisShop, the First and Business Class Menus are curated by four renowned chefs:
- George Blanc, who’s a three Michelin-starred chef from France. He’s responsible for the “From Singapore to Paris” menu.
- Matt Moran, who has received two prestigious Chef’s Hat by the influential Sydney Morning Herald Good Food Guide. He’s responsible for the “From Singapore to Sydney” menu.
- Yoshihiro Murata, whose restaurant, Kikunoi, was awarded three Michelin stars in the Michelin Guide Kyoto & Osaka 2010. He’s responsible for the “From Singapore to Tokyo” menu.
- Sanjeev Kapoor, who’s the author of many best-selling cookbooks, restaurateur and winner of several culinary awards. He’s responsible for the “From Singapore to Delhi” menu.
A standard menu comprises of at least six selections: Satay, Appetiser, Main Course, Bread, Desserts and Wine.
Depending on your menu of choice, the appetisers and main courses largely differ.
Some Airline signatures such as chicken satay and garlic bread, however, are present across the board. Bakery options may be exempt from the Tokyo and Delhi menus.
Several standout main course selections include Roasted Lobster in Spicy Bisque Sauce from the Singapore – Sydney First-Class Menu, Baked Prawn with Sea Urchin from the Singapore – Tokyo First Class Kyo-Kaiseki Menu, Chicken in basil cream from the Singapore – New Delhi First Class Shahi Thali Menu and Poached Lobster Flavoured with Extra Virgin Olive Oil from the Singapore to Paris First Class Menu.
Meanwhile, there are seven packages available for consumers:
- First Class Wine and Dine
- Business Class Wine and Dine
- First Class Champagne and Dine
- First Class Wine and Dine, with Tableware
- First Class All-Inclusive Experience
- Business Class All-Inclusive Experience
- First Class Signatures
Prices range from SGD 258.00 for a Business Class Wine and Dine package, to SGD 888.00 for a First Class All-Inclusive Experience.
Some packages also offer champagne, a tableware set, amenity kits, sleeper suits and other amenities.

In addition, you can opt for the Book-the-Chef feature to add on an exclusive chef experience, whereby your meal will be reheated, plated and served in front of you.
You can request for the feature through their dedicated crew concierge, who will also attend to you in regards to your meal and wine selection.
Food To Nowhere?
Apart from their home dining service, Singapore Airlines also – for a brief period of time – considered the aspect of no-destination flights.
To put it simply, the plane would depart from Changi Airport, fly in the air for three hours and land back in Changi Airport.
You can pretty much deem it as a casual sightseeing trip, just an extra-exorbitant one.
Called “Flights to Nowhere”, it was supposed to launch in end-October.
However, as enticing as the prospect may be, the idea did not go down well with people…
Especially the environmentalists.
So much so that a petition was kickstarted just to get the notion out of the air. Literally.
And so, with the clear rejection in mind, SIA abandoned the lofty idea and decided to go for something different.
Instead, SIA announced that customers will be given the chance to dine on one of its Airbus A380s, while it remains parked at Changi Airport.
Aboard the A380, customers will be able to choose from SIA’s signature international cuisine, as well as from a special Peranakan menu designed by Singaporean chef Shermay Le.
On 24 and 25 Oct, customers will be served lunch in a cabin of their choice on the aircraft after entering via the aerobridge.
In addition, customers will be shown a display of SIA’s cabin crew uniform over the years.
Those who attend their lunches wearing traditional heritage wear – such as a sarong kebaya, cheongsam, and saree – will also receive a special gift.
Bookings for the A380 dining experience will begin on 12 Oct on SIA’s KrisShop website.
Tours of SIA’s training facilities will also be conducted.
