All the 4 Kids in This S’pore Family Have the Same Birthday in Different Years

In a group of 23 people, there is a 50% chance of two people to share the same birthday. In another instance, there is a 1 in 15,300 chance of getting struck by lightning in our lifetime.

What are the odds for four siblings to share the same birthday?

It’s like flipping a coin with a 50-50 chance of getting heads or tails.

But for Singaporean couple Salihin Ahmad Perbah and Khairunnisa Abdul Karim, the probability of having all their children born on the same day seems remarkably high.

The Salihin family never has to worry about forgetting birthdays because all four children were welcomed into the world on the same date: 6 September.

The older children are 12, 10 and 8 years old, and now their newborn has joined the special club.

The older ones are 12-year-old Shahin Khalish, 10-year-old Sairish Khaila, and 8-year-old Shaila Kheisha.

Children Delivered by the Same Doctor

If you thought that alone was impressive, that’s not all. The same doctor, Dr Jazlan Joosoph, an obstetrician and gynaecology specialist at Raffles Hospital, delivered all four children of Salihin and Khairunnisa.

Talk about having so many common things to share with your siblings!

On 6 September, Dr Jazlan Joosoph shared a photo on Instagram featuring himself with the Salihin family and their newest addition. He proudly mentioned that he delivered all four children naturally and at full term without any surgical interventions.

It’s like an extra special birthday gift to their older kids, especially since they have always wanted a younger sibling.

Did Not Expect Youngest Child to Share Birthday with Older Siblings

Interestingly, the couple didn’t plan for their children to share the same birthday.

Speaking to local Malay news broadcast Berita Harian, the couple said that their fourth child was unexpected, as they had initially planned to stop having children after their third in 2015.

They needed to purchase fresh items for the newborn because the ones previously used for their first three children had either been gifted to others or thrown away.

Their due date was initially set for 24 September, but during a check-up around the 30th week of pregnancy, the doctor informed them about the high likelihood of a 6 September birth date.

Now that their newborn is here, Salihin plans to bring everyone on a family birthday trip next year.

As rosy and smooth sailing as things are now, things weren’t easy for the couple in 2009. Khairunnisa was pregnant with their first child but suffered a miscarriage about 30 weeks into the pregnancy.

Gynecologist Says Two Siblings Born on the Same Day Is a Rare Occurrence

Dr Jazlan, who delivered all four siblings on the same date, noted that it’s rare for more than two siblings to share the same birthday, primarily through natural birth.

He believes that not many gynaecologists can claim they’ve delivered more than two siblings with the same birthday, as it’s an exceptionally rare occurrence.

In his 22-year medical career, this was the first time he witnessed four siblings sharing the same birthday.

For the Salihin family, having all four children share the same birthday is not only memorable but also cost-effective, as they only need to throw one big birthday bash on 6 September each year.
