Well, doesn’t this sound familiar?

The Singapore Police Force (SPF) received a complaint on Tuesday (Feb 16) at around 1.15pm that a male victim had been slashed by a few unknown men along Simei Avenue.

This comes in the wake of other similar incidents, including the stabbings at Tampines and more recently, Jurong East.

Victim Slashed by Four Men

According to the SPF, the victim was allegedly slashed by an 18-year-old man after a dispute.

It is believed that another 18-year-old man passed the knife to the attacker before the assault.

The four assailants, aged between 17 and 20, had also reportedly kicked and hit the victim.

They were arrested by the police for voluntarily causing harm to dangerous weapons with common intention.

Officers from Bedok Police Division discovered the identities of the men through investigations, and with the help from CCTV images, arrested them within 24 hours.

Possible Punishments

On Thursday (Feb 18), the two 18-year-old men will be tried in court on charges of voluntary harm with dangerous weapons with common intention. This is punishable under Section 324 read with Section 34 of the Penal Code.

If convicted, the perpetrators might be punished with imprisonment for a term of up to 7 years, or with fine, or with caning, or with any combination of such punishments.

Furthermore, carrying offensive weapons in public areas is punishable under Section 6 (1) of the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Offensive Weapons Act.

If convicted, the assailants might face imprisonment of up to 3 years and caning with no less than 6 strokes.

Investigations Still Ongoing

Investigations against the remaining two men, aged 17 and 20, are still ongoing.

SPF also stated that, “The Police have zero tolerance towards such brazen acts and will not hesitate to take action against those who blatantly disregard the law.”
