These heartfelt words were spoken by former convict-turned-TikTok star Simon Khung, known as Simonboy, to his girlfriend, affectionately known as “Simongirl” or Chloe Eong.
Behind his engaging TikTok content, which has garnered over 153,000 followers, lies a story of resilience and hardship.
Now 36 years old, Simon’s journey includes a two-year stay at a halfway house, three times in prison, two failed marriages, and a thwarted suicide attempt.
In 2019, he voluntarily checked into The New Charis Mission halfway house, marking the start of his transformation.
It was during this time of change, about two years ago, that Simon met “Simongirl” through a dating app.
Simongirl’s Pivotal Role in Simonboy’s Journey
At that time, Simon was working as a food delivery rider using a bicycle, with a mere $50 in his bank account.
Despite his financial struggles, Chloe remained steadfastly by his side.
As Simon fondly recalled on the Mediacorp video podcast “R U Okay?” hosted by Jean Danker, Chloe “stuck with him” through thick and thin.
Chloe herself led a modest life, holding a regular job with an average salary, insufficient to support two people.
Yet, her unwavering faith in Simon proved priceless. She never hesitated to lend him money whenever he needed it, playing a crucial role in helping him rebuild his career.
This included launching the clothing brand “Chance” and establishing Peace Street Productions.
Simon shared in the podcast that the only promise he could make to Chloe was to work diligently at every opportunity that came his way.
Chloe’s support went beyond financial aid. She reassured Simon that even if they did not succeed, it would be okay, and he wouldn’t need to return the money.
Simon, however, was determined not to rely solely on Chloe. He strived to use his own earnings as much as possible.
During his hardest times, he worked as a cleaner and a house mover. But never once did he give in to the hardships of life.
His perseverance paid off when his clothing brand earned over $2000 on its first launch, eventually providing a stable income to support both himself and Chloe.
Simon credits his motivation to Chloe’s support and his commitment to not disappoint her.
Additionally, his faith in Christianity has been a significant pillar of strength in his life.
True Love: Beyond Reciprocity
To express his gratitude, Simon recently dedicated a touching tribute to Chloe on Instagram, acknowledging her vital role in his success.
As a token of his appreciation, he purchased a diamond Rolex for her from Royal Crown Watches at People’s Park Complex.
Such luxury timepieces can cost upwards of $10,000, even for pre-owned models.
While the Rolex is undoubtedly expensive, Simon values their enduring love above material possessions.
He understands that maintaining a strong, healthy relationship involves shared experiences, both challenging and joyful.
