Since 27 July 2019, There Are No More Public Buses With Plastic Service Number Plates

A Wise Old Man once said this:

“Nothing good lasts forever. Nothing.”

And while I’m tempted to rebut him, just because, it seems that he’s right on this one.

Everything positive does appear to move on eventually.

I mean, just think about it. Tom’s self-professed crush on his classmate Stephanie? Gone, within three days. That appetising plate of chicken rice on your table. Gone, within minutes. You get it, don’t you?

Nothing good lasts forever.

Not a man’s luscious locks. Not a woman’s ethereal beauty. And from the looks of it…

Certainly not these public buses with plastic service number plates, transportation vehicles we’ve long since taken for granted.

Public Buses With Plastic Service Number Plates Are No Longer A Reality

Yes, you read that right. These ancient-looking buses, with plastic service number plates out of the Dinosaur age and tacky colour design straight out of Trump’s colour palette, are no longer in service in 2019.

According to Youtube channel glitchFan2428, their last day of service was on 26 July 2019.

Destos

Colloquially known as “Destos”, these buses come in a variety of designs and sizes.

While they’ve been the main staple in the last two decades, it seems that it’s time to usher in a new generation.

As the years rolled by, Singapore has slowly progressed into the era of Electronic Displays.

Are the plastic service number plates truly gone, though?

According to the same Youtube channel, Plastic Service plates can still be found.

In cases where the electronic display malfunctions, or on certain services where the colour of the plate’s utilised to differentiate the direction of travel, Plastic Service plates will be used in place.

And so… now what?

As the Wise Old Man said, nothing lasts forever.

And these Plastic Service buses aren’t any different.

But hey, as some Netizens said, they’ll always be in our hearts.

So we just gotta move on, for their sake, and ours.

In the meantime, you can drown in nostalgia with the video below:
