A 69-year-old man was found dead alone in his flat at Block 318 Ubi Avenue 1 after neighbours noticed a foul smell coming from the unit. The man had reportedly been living alone for about a month after his youngest son went overseas to study, according to Mothership, which cited Shin Min Daily News. Police said they were alerted to a case of unnatural death at the block on 17 September 2026 at about 6.45pm. The man was found lying motionless in a residential unit and was pronounced dead at the scene. Preliminary investigations do not suspect foul play.
Neighbours Noticed Foul Smell From Flat
A neighbour told Shin Min Daily News that the man had moved into the flat about two years ago and was known to be friendly. She said she last saw him about five days before the discovery. The neighbour said the man had four children and had previously lived with his youngest son. However, his son had gone overseas for further studies about a month earlier, leaving him living alone. She noticed an unpleasant smell in her home in the days before the discovery and initially thought it was caused by spoiled food. As the smell became stronger, she and her son traced it to the elderly man’s unit and alerted the authorities.
Police Investigations Ongoing
Police have classified the case as an unnatural death and said investigations are ongoing. No further details about the man’s cause of death have been released.
