Thirty-five Singapore police and forensic officers have returned home after being deployed to Nepal to support recovery efforts following deadly flash floods that struck the country in August.
A welcome-home reception was held for the officers from Operation Vanguard at HomeTeamNS Bedok Reservoir on Saturday (26 September), after their deployment from about 1 to 18 September.
Officers Supported Victim Identification And Surveillance Work
The team was sent to Nepal at the request of Nepalese authorities following flash floods along the Nepal-China border on 26 August.
Their work included disaster victim identification operations, where officers assisted with post-mortem examinations and fingerprint analysis to help identify victims.
The officers also provided aerial surveillance support during the disaster response efforts.
Deployment Came After Deadly Flash Floods In Nepal
The floods left at least 1,400 people dead, while thousands remained missing, according to reports on the disaster.
Among those still unaccounted for were foreign nationals, including Singaporeans. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has continued to provide updates on the situation.
The Singapore team’s deployment was part of international assistance efforts following the large-scale disaster.
Officers Welcomed Home After Completing Mission
The welcome-home reception recognised the officers’ work during the overseas deployment, which involved supporting local authorities in challenging conditions.
The Singapore Police Force and forensic officers have previously taken part in overseas disaster victim identification missions, assisting with identification efforts after major disasters.
