S’pore Pools’ Reopening Wasn’t Crazily Wild Despite Rain, Unlike McDonald’s Reopening Chaos

When you hear that Singapore Pools outlets are reopening on 22 Jun, you’re probably thinking: my god, it’s going to be another McDonald’s incident all over again.

Many, many people

And chaotic.

After all, the weather has been pretty crazy too.

And when it comes to Singapore Pools, you know that queues are going to extend out of the outlet into the common walkways. Maybe even all the way to JB.

Well…

Turns out, even punters in Singapore are more clear-headed and logical than fast-food lovers.

S’pore Pools’ Reopening Wasn’t Crazily Wild Despite Rain, Unlike McDonald’s Reopening Chaos

Here are the comments that Singapore punters gave when ST went out to interview them:

Cleaning supervisor Dominic Pereira, 68:

“(The measures) are good, they have the proper procedure of queueing up instead of people rushing and getting too close to one another.”

Madam Tan Lai Wan:

There was “little hassle in observing the safety measures in place.”

Real Estate Agent Adrian Lim:

“It is not troublesome because (these measures) are common and in place everywhere.”

Mr Henry Vijay Kumar Charles:

“I feel it is safe.”

Mr Sia, Retiree:

“I waited about five minutes. The process was very fast and (the measures) were not troublesome.”

In short, while queues are long, it’s orderly and well-managed.

Of course, it helps that punters here in Singapore have a lot of experience with queuing up, especially the hour before bet placements for a big draw closes.

Safe Management Measures In Place

When Singapore Pools reopened, they implemented several safe management measures in place.

They include:

  • Only rolling the Toto pool twice instead of four times

So lesser people will rush to buy Toto on the fourth roll in hopes of striking it rich

  • Enhanced cleaning of high-touch areas
  • Deployment of staff to manage queues
  • Clear markings on the ground to guide punters when queuing up
  • Visual signs and public education materials

At supermarkets, staff deployed outside also checked temperatures, guide punters to check-in with SafeEntry and showing them where to stand while queuing.

Punters are also advised to avoid peak hours and to consider creating a Singapore Pools Livewire account to place contactless bets.
