An SMRT bus captain was caught on camera sneaking himself a sweet treat and using his phone while driving a bus.
Needless to say, the ending for him is far from sweet.
SMRT Bus Captain Caught on Camera Eating and Looking at Phone While Driving Bus on Expressway
On Saturday (13 May), a TikTok video of an SMRT bus captain eating and scrolling through his phone surfaced.
No biggie, right? Except he was doing all that while driving a bus on the expressway.

The TikTok user who uploaded the video, known as @painhub243b, clarified in the comments that this incident happened on Friday (12 May) at 7:20 pm.
Maybe the bus driver was ready to knock off already—his job was the only thing standing between him and the weekend that night.
According to the TikTok user, the incident occurred on bus service 960, which operates between Woodlands and Marina Centre.
The 35-second clip starts with the bus captain unwrapping what appears to be a sweet. Both his hands are off the steering wheel.
God’s taking the wheel, I guess.
After unwrapping the sweet and popping it into his mouth, he puts his left hand back on the steering wheel.
However, that one hand didn’t stay on the wheel either.
Moments later, the bus captain started twiddling the sweet wrapper in his hands, meaning both hands were off the wheel again.
And mind you, we can observe from the bus window that the bus was still moving steadily along the expressway.
The bus captain eventually retires his sweet wrapper, returning his right hand to the wheel.
This isn’t the end of it—Uncle is looking for a thrill.
The TikTok video subsequently cuts to a clip of the bus captain scrolling through his phone with his right hand, keeping only his left hand on the steering wheel.

He looks away from his phone once every few seconds at the road before him.
Perhaps he’s a busy man with many messages to read. His phone may have been blowing up on Friday night, but now he’s the one that’s blowing up on Singaporeans’ phones.
SMRT Bus Captain Has Since Been Suspended
While this whole saga started from a mere TikTok, believe us when we say it escalated quickly. According to STOMP, the bus captain has since been suspended.
The deputy managing director of SMRT buses, Mr Vincent Gay, shared that the public transport company does not condone the bus captain’s conduct.
Well, duh…
He also added that SMRT constantly reminds bus captains to “observe all safety and road regulations”.
The matter is currently under investigation by SMRT.
Multiple SMRT Bus Captains Caught “Lacking” in Past Year
Our munch-and-scroll bus captain isn’t the first bus captain caught “lacking” this past year.
Earlier this month, an SBS bus captain was caught on camera driving with their leg up and waiting at the traffic light with both hands off the steering wheel. Disciplinary action was eventually taken against the bus captain.
Last September, another SMRT bus captain was arrested for careless driving after he hit a 74-year-old man at the junction of Compassvale Road and Compassvale Drive.
You might even remember the two SBS bus captains who found themselves on the news in August last year for the most bizarre reasons. One was jailed for falling asleep while driving, and the other was captured on camera pointing his middle finger.
Maybe, for now, we should all take the train instead…
