The Ministry of Health (MOH) has released a press release stating that there was a single community case of locally transmitted COVID-19 infection on 3 April.
Guess we might have cheered too soon…
A single community case
The case involves a 24-year-old female Myanmar domestic worker.
She arrived in Singapore on 30 January and served her Stay-Home Notice (SHN) at a government facility until 13 February.
Her last COVID-19 test was conducted on 12 February and it came back negative.
After her SHN, she was transferred to a boarding house for foreign domestic workers while waiting to be assigned to an employer.
She stayed there until 9 March where she was then subsequently assigned to start working at her employer’s place.
She was asymptomatic
Being asymptomatic, a 24-year-old female Myanmar domestic worker was only detected when she was swabbed as part of MOH’s contact tracing efforts regarding another positive COVID-19 case which involves a 26-year-old Myanmar domestic worker.
The 26-year-old was in the same boarding house as she was and had interacted with her.
Developed symptoms on 23 March, the 26-year-old Myanmar national was confirmed to have COVID-19 on 25 March.
A local unlinked case
Currently, according to the MOH, both cases aren’t yet definitively linked since the symptomatic patient supposedly interacted with the asymptomatic one outside of her infectious period.
However, as a precautionary measure, the 24-year-old domestic worker has been isolated.
All household members the domestic worker may have interacted with have also been placed under quarantine.
They will be tested for COVID-19 periodically.
Further contact tracing will be done as well.
253 Active Cases
As of 3 April, there are 253 active cases, out of which 212 are clinically well (asymptomatic) and are currently being cared for in community facilities.
40 of those active cases are being treated for the infection at the hospital while one critical case is in the intensive care unit (ICU).
No deaths related to COVID-19 have been reported. The death count remains at 30.
