Can’t get enough of Korean actress Son Ye-jin?
Well, you’ll soon be able to see her on the big screen again…
Speaking English too, while at it.
Yes folks, our favourite heiress is here to slay again…
And this time, she’s doing it on the grandest stage of them all:
Crash Landing on You Star is Going to Appear in a Hollywood Film & Will Be Speaking English Throughout
According to CNA Lifestyle, South Korean actress Son Ye-jin is currently in talks to work out the details of her first Hollywood film appearance.
On Monday (6 July), Son’s agency , MS Team Entertainment, expressed that her involvement in the movie was very likely to be a confirmed thing, though it did take a cautious tone:
“Son Ye-jin is in talks for the movie Cross, and the outlook is favourable. Unless there are any huge changes, she’ll be going through with it.”
Her agency has also stated that 38-year-old Son will be playing a lead role in the film, and will be speaking English throughout the movie.
Guess we’ll be seeing a lot more of this in Cross, huh?
Cross
According to the report, Son is probably not going to be the only South Korean star in the movie. Parasite actor Lee Sun-gyun has also been offered a part, though he’s said to still be considering the offer and has yet to come to a decision.
Meanwhile, actor Sam Worthington (of Avatar and Clash Of The Titans fame) will be taking on the starring role in the movie, while director Andrew Niccol (who worked on Gattaca and In Time) will serve as the engineer behind the film’s shooting scenes.
The movie, which takes place in the future, will present the story of people stuck between two nations: one wealthy and the other poor. According to Korean media outlet Star News, Son will play the role of Vera, an independent woman who resides in the poor nation, and who has to raise her child alone after her husband’s demise.
Production is expected to commence in March next year; several scenes are set to be shot in South Korea.
Son Ye-jin
Son Ye-jin is a South Korean actress who has played starring roles in numerous films and television series, including The Classic (2003), Summer Scent (2003) and April Snow (2005).
She has won acting recognition for her versatility in a multitude of genres, notably in My Wife Got Married (2008), The Pirates (2014) and the 2016 films The Truth Beneath and The Last Princess.
Her last lead role was in Crash Landing On You (2019-2020), where she portrayed a rich heiress who falls in love with a North Korean commission officer. The drama proved to be a huge success, scoring high ratings and eventually becoming the third-highest-rated Korean drama in cable television history.
Son has also proved to be more than an accomplished actress. Back when South Korea was struggling with a sudden outbreak of COVID-19 cases, Son made a generous donation of 100 million won (around S$114,945) to her hometown Daegu, where more than half of the total confirmed cases in the country stemmed from.
All the best for the production process, Son Ye-jin! As theatre mavericks would say…
Break a leg! 🙂
Non-literally, of course.
