Not to mention, confused AF.

It didn’t help that the parties involved seem to change their stories like that mamak uncle flip roti prata.

And all in the span of a few days.

Here is the timeline of Descendants of the Song (no, I didn’t come up with that) that’s like a romance Korean drama in itself.

May 2015: Guy meets girl after leaving the army for two days

Song Joong-ki attended a script reading for Descendants of the Sun just two days after he was discharged from the army.

He wasn’t the first choice for the role but he was definitely more enthusiastic about the drama than other actors.

His chemistry with lead actress Song Hye-kyo was so good that cheers and applause reportedly broke out after he read his love scenes with her.

June to Dec 2015: Guy and girl spent time together in Greece and South Korea

Descendants of The Sun is a pre-produced drama. That means that even before it air, the drama would’ve been filmed and edited.

The couple spent six months filming the drama in Greece and South Korea from June to December 2015.

Jan 2016: Guy wants to surprise girl with snacks, girl surprises guy’s fans in fan meet

Just one month after they wrapped up filming for the drama, Song Joong-ki showed boyfriendly behaviour by sending snacks to Song Hye-kyo during a photo shoot.

He wanted to surprise her, according to the website Osen.

Song Hye-Kyo also made a surprise appearance at Song Joong-ki’s fan meet in China in June 2016.

Feb 2016: Guy and girl are suspected to be more than friends but insist they’re not

This was when the couple was still insisting that they’re friends and nothing more.

When the drama premiered in February 2016, it only took 4 episodes for Captain Yoo to kiss Doctor Kang. Their chemistry was so amazing that fans started putting the two together as a couple.

The rumours escalated after they were spotted shopping and dining in New York. In real life.

Song Hye-Kyo’s agency, UAA, dismissed the rumours at that time, saying Song Joong-ki is simply “a close colleague and junior”.

June 2016: Guy and girl showed up for an important event together. Hand-in-hand.

In June 2016, the couple showed up at the Baeksang Arts Awards together holding hands.

Song-Song shipping fans took it as a sign that the romance between the couple is real. Other people, on the other hand, dismissed it.

They were there to hopefully get an award for a drama they’ve worked on together. Obviously, they had to play to the fans’ expectations.

On a separate note, DoTS won the grand prize and both Songs won popularity award.

Song Hye-kyo also comforted Song Joong-ki when he got overly emotional at the ceremony.

Jan 2017: Guy and girl made a promise to live the rest of their lives together.

Song Joong-ki revealed that he and Song Hye-kyo made a promise to spend the rest of their lives together at the beginning of 2017.

Photos of the Song couple in Tokyo were also released in January, and unnamed sources were quoted as saying that Song Joong-ki confessed on that day.

The actor also bought a luxury home in Itaewon-dong, Seoul.

June 2017: Guy told boss that he’s going to get married

In June 2017, the couple were caught spending time together on Bali island, but it was dismissed by their agencies.

They were physically on the island, but it was for separate reasons, and not for each other, they said.

However, MBC conducted their own investigation into the allegations. They tracked down Song Hye-Kyo’s lodging on the island where an employee said the actress was visited by a masked man who stayed there.

In the same month, Song Joong-ki had informed his agency, Blossom Entertainment, about his wedding plans.

July 2017: Guy and girl finally admit the truth, telling people about their wedding plans.

On 5 July 2017, the couple announced their wedding plans to the world.

In a joint statement released by both agencies, they said the couple is planning to get married on 31 October 2017.

The agencies have also apologised for not revealing the truth till now as it was a “delicate situation”.

Both families, they said, were meeting each other and they wish to have lesser complications during that time.

Song Joong-ki also told fans that he had to keep the relationship secret out of respect for his family.

Song Hye-Kyo also mentioned that even though she had wanted to date a man who’s not in showbiz, Song Joong-ki’s sincerity made her trust in him and their future together.

With mystery, romance, bosses and family, that’s a recipe for a love drama right there.
