SPF Officer Fined $6K For Insulting & Making Sexual ‘Jokes’ About Female Subordinate For About A Year

When people ask, what’s the most important thing in your job?

Some will say money, others, career progress. But one thing that not everybody says, but agree on, is that the colleagues play a part.

After all, they’re the ones that’ll encourage you when you’re down, teach you when you’re clueless and help you when you’re desperate.

But what if your direct superior is an asshole and makes your life difficult?

Do what this lady did.

SPF Officer Harass Female Subordinate

According to reports, a female officer in the Singapore police force was the victim of a male superior for about a year.

When the policewoman brought cupcakes into the office for her colleagues, the superior casually liken the cupcake frosting to ejaculation.

Once, when the female officer was talking with her teammates about a trip to Bangkok, the superior asked, “Want to go Bangkok together? Bring you go whitening and expanding.”

In another instance, the female officer was practising the baton with her teammates at a police defence tactics course.

The superior walked past and ask her not to “poke until baby comes out”.

It Wasn’t Just Comments

Back in 2016, the superior took the female officer’s WhatsApp photo and posted it onto a group chat.

Then he asked, “This one is a virgin, who wishes to try?”

The female officer also overheard him talking to another officer, saying that she should be bought into a hotel room and “made pregnant” after Halloween Horror Night.

In June 2017, he reportedly said that “a certain location was very “ulu” and she would be raped by stray dogs and get pregnant if she went there on her own by bus”.

Female Officer Couldn’t Take It Anymore

She eventually approached a deputy superintendent on Apr 2018 and told him about her situation.

She was afraid of what will happen if she had lodged a police report against her superior and was in a constant state of fear and confusion.

After talking to the deputy superintendent, she made a report.

“I Was Only Joking”

The 36-year-old superior was brought to court and pleaded guilty to three charges of “using insulting words likely to cause harassment, alarm and distress to his 26-year-old subordinate.

The male officer admitted that he has said those things to the female officer, but claimed that he was joking.

When he said he’ll bring the girl to Bangkok to “go whitening and expanding”, he meant to whiten her skin and expand her chest.

The judge ultimately slapped him with a fine of $6,000.

The Singapore Police Force said that they have begun disciplinary proceedings against him after his indictment.

Moral of the Story:

There are a couple of things you can take away from this incident.

One, if you’re getting harassed, report it immediately. Because nothing’s more important than your physical and mental well-being.

Two, saying that something’s a joke doesn’t make it okay. Crossing lines will get you punished, regardless if it’s a joke or not.

And three, I’m pretty sure there’ll be some netizens who’ll be like, wait, this is the standards of the women in blue protecting us? When they can’t even take a little hazing?

Nothing to do with gender, or how strong or weak you are. Hazing is okay if it’s to make the team bond together (read: field camp during NS) but doing it too much? The consequences might be heavier than you can carry.
