When we talk about instant noodles, instantly, your mind might wander to the YouTube videos of mukbangers eating heaps and heaps of Shin Ramyun.
You might even be thinking of the custom-made cup noodles at the CUP NOODLES Factory in Japan.
Oh, what about the packets of Indomie’s Mi Goreng stashed away in your luggage to satisfy your ever-so-loyal Asian tastebuds on your Europe trip in case you get sick of pasta and cheese?
Well, either way, we would hardly ever coin the term instant noodles to Singapore.
Reader: I mean, why would we? Singapore and instant noodles were never synonymous.
Now with the NYTimes’s Best Instant Noodles List, maybe you would.
“A Rich, Shrimpy Delight”

The Singapore Laska La Mian by Prima Taste, a Singapore brand, has made it to the New York Times List of the best instant noodles. This “rich, shrimpy delight” may just have the ability to transport you straight to Singapore’s hawker centres.
Well, realistically speaking, this might never beat a bowl of freshly cooked bowl of Laksa made by your local hawker aunties or uncles. However, should you be away from home and you happen to crave Singapore food, this might just hit the spot.
Each pack of this Laksa LaMian contains two hefty sachets to form the broth. One contains a thick, fragrant fermented shrimp paste, while the other is a pile of coconut milk powder. Having to cook the thick chewy noodles for a whopping seven minutes, it has easily earned the title of the longest time to cook amongst the 45 noodles tested by the NYTimes team.
This tiny yet mighty pack of noodles would bring out a “pungent taste of fermented shrimp” and “warming galangal” on top of the “sweet creamy coconutty” broth.
A bowl of Laksa LaMian is probably the simplest and cheapest way to spell out heaven for my seafood lovers. However, if seafood is not your cup of tea, then it is probably better to stay away from this instant noodle. Quoting Taylor Swift, don’t say I didn’t say I didn’t warn ya!
