S’porean Got Scammed On Carousell For USS Tickets; Seller Just Said ‘Sorry, No Stock’ Then Disappeared

Singaporeans are a bunch of smart people.

Our education system is first class, and we’re pretty street smart too. At least, until, our wants overtake our rational thinking, that is.

Like what happened to this poor Carousell dude who just wanted tickets to the scare of his life.

Carousell Listing Selling Universal Studios Singapore (USS) Tickets For Only $45

According to a STOMP report, Fadee came across a Carousell listing selling off-peak USS tickets at $45 each.

That’s a $13 discount off the usual price.

When he asked the seller if the tickets are still available, she confirmed that they are.

When he wanted to pay via PayNow, the seller told him that she only accepts bank transfer.

Eventually, they agreed that Fadee will just pay $45 for the first USS e-ticket. Should he receive the tickets, then he will proceed to pay for the second ticket.

After the transfer was done, she told him that she’ll be sending an email to him shortly.

Unfortunately, the email he was waiting for didn’t arrive.

The seller told Fadee that she ran “out of stock”, and that she’ll refund him his money. She never did.

Finding something amiss about the situation, he decided to ask for an update on when he’ll receive the refund.

Unfortunately, the seller simply went AWOL on him.

He claimed that after he had asked for a refund again, the seller blocked him on Carousell chat.

He has since made a police report on 15 Oct and reported the seller to Carousell. Unfortunately, nothing was done yet.

Moral Of The Story

Okay, this time, we’re not the ones who came up with the moral of the story.

The victim of the story did himself.

He said that he wanted to share his story to warn others about getting scammed on Carousell.

And that they should always buy from trusted sellers or from the establishment itself.

One comment said it right, though.

Most of the times, we already know about scams happening in Singapore.

I mean, various media outlets (including us) have covered about some of the Carousell scams that really happened in real life.

Here’s a very informative video we did back then *Shameless self-plug*

But more often than not, it’s our Fear Of Missing Out (FOMO) that’s causing us to lose whatever brain cells we have.

I mean, you’ve experienced it for yourself at least once, right?

You know that you don’t need to buy two red underwears, actually, because owning just one will make it luckier.

But the shop’s selling it at one for $39.90, two for $50.

That’s like $14.90 OFF.

So at the end of the day, you’ll walk out of the shop with two red underwears, one for you and one for your dad.

But here’s one important rule of the thumb you might want to follow.

If it’s too good to be true, it’s too good to be true. Forget it. I mean, is it better to lose out on discounts of $13 or lose 45 bucks?

When you put it that way, it makes everything so much simpler, doesn’t it?

You’re welcome 😉
