Been smelling a burning smell in Singapore for the past two months, and getting really irritated by it?

And it doesn’t help that NEA’s haze readings always come out as ‘moderate’.

So you have that niggling feeling at the back of your mind, wondering if you’ve imagined the whole thing up.

Well, you didn’t.

Burning Smell in S’pore

When we first started smelling the oh-so-familiar fragrance of haze in Singapore, we looked towards Indonesia once again.

Only to realise that this time, they’re not the perps.

It’s actually our neighbouring country.

Johor is experiencing hotspots in the dry weather.

And it seems like it’s going to get worse before it gets better.

Well, guess what? It seems highly likely that we’re now in the better phase.

At least according to the NEA.

Less Burning Smell in S’pore

On 28 Mar 2019, NEA announced happily that Singaporeans should experience lesser burning smell in Singapore for the next few weeks.

Why?

Because it’s going to rain.

Inter-monsoon Conditions

According to the NEA, Singaporeans can expect to see inter-monsoon conditions appearing around early April.

Which means you’ll start seeing showers in the surrounding region.

Yes, not just Singapore.

So not only does the rain clear the burning smell from the air, they’ll also prevent hotspots from appearing in Johor.

Keep in mind that the hotspots that kept appearing this year are due to the hot weather that we’re all experiencing.

The TL; DR? The burning smell in Singapore will be reduced in the next one to two weeks.

Everything’s Normal Right Now

Sticking to their guns, the NEA added that the PSI index in Singapore is in the moderate range (52-67).

And the one-hour PM2.5 readings ranged between 1 and 53 micrograms per cubic metre, which is the normal range.

They added that they’ll be keeping a close eye on the situation and will update Singaporeans accordingly.

Takeaway

So what can you take away from this news besides the fact that we could be taking a half-time from the burning smell?

Bring your umbrella to work or school because we’re going to be seeing a lot of rain.

That and always leave for your appointments on time. Because based on previous experience with Grab, the prices are going to surge so high they resemble my fat boss’s high blood pressure.

With that said, time to stock up on N95 masks liao because the weather guys did say this year is going to be a ‘sizzling’ year.

And when it sizzles, the haze comes back. #LessonLearnt
