So you have your AirPods plugged in, with your favourite playlists on Spotify streamed all day long without respite. Yet, notwithstanding your obvious prowess at using Spotify, you’re still a little tongue-tied when it comes to the nifty tricks that set you apart from the rest.

Here are 10 Spotify Tips & Tricks You Didn’t Know About (Spotify Hidden Features)!

If you prefer to watch a video about this topic instead, here you go:

1. Adjustable Sound Quality

You can actually adjust the sound quality of songs on Spotify.

Yup, quality adjustment isn’t just limited to your off-the-mill Youtube video. It applies to your Spotify selections as well.

To adjust manually, just head on to the settings menu and you can tweak the sound quality.

Opt from Low (24kbps), Medium (96 kbps), High (160 kbps), or Very High (320 kbps).

The default mode, it should be mentioned, is set to ‘automatic’.

Do note, however, that higher-quality streams could cost more of your data allowance.

2. Add Music That Isn’t On Spotify

Spotify may boast a really expansive and vast library of songs, but it could still have a few gaps here and there in terms of song selections.

No worries though, because you can actually add missing songs yourself.

To do so, just go to Spotify’s ‘Preferences’ on the desktop app, scroll down and click on ‘Add a source’.

Thereafter, transfer your own music files over and you can see them in your Spotify library. It is conveniently located under ‘Local Files’ on the left sidebar.

Bam, you’re welcome.

3. Recover Deleted Spotify Playlists

Accidentally deleted a really nostalgic playlist of yours? Not keen to pay a million bucks to retrieve it?

Well, no worries because you can still get it back, and you don’t even have to pay four limbs for it.

Simply log in, go to ‘Account Settings’ and select ‘Recover Playlists’.

Yes, it’s so easy, it’s not even hidden.

4.Spotify’s Radio Option

Ran out of options on what to listen to? Radio’s the answer.

Kind of.

For desktop users, select ‘radio’ from the left-hand pane, before choosing ‘Create new station’. Thereafter, opt for an artist, album, or playlist you’re interested in.

Meanwhile, for mobile users, you gotta hit up those three dots on an artist, album or song, before selecting ‘Go to radio’.

Once done, the radio function will start churning out song selections that sound similar to your pick.

5. Filter

A fan of Katy Perry’s older songs but not so much of her newer ones?

Well, here’s a hack to filter through her less ‘glamorous’ songs.

Simply type the artist’s name in the search bar and the years you want to hear. For instance, a prime example relevant to this point would be “Katy Perry year: 2005-15”.

And voila, no more modern Katy Perry, more vintage Katy Perry.

Or whichever artist floats your boat.

6. Desktop Difficulties

Keen to listen to Spotify on your work computer, but your IT department doesn’t allow you to install the Spotify app?

Technically, they can’t stop you unless they block your Internet browser.

Just head on down to play.spotify.com and you’ll be able to stream as many song selections as you want.

7. Collaborative Playlists

So you’ve been tasked to compile a playlist for a friend’s wedding. Or a party in the future when COVID-19 is part of our history.

But you’re not that confident in your taste in music, and you really don’t wish to be that one party pooper who plays a funeral song at a wedding.

Well no worries, you just have to gather input from your peers. Like hard input.

Get a collaborative playlist going, grant your friends access to it and watch as everyone chips in with an equally disastrous song of their own!

To make a collaborative playlist, right-click on a playlist name and opt for the collaborative option!

8. Follow Friends For The Trend

Spotify actually supports a friend system. Simply follow your trendiest pal on the platform and spy on what they’re listening to.

To locate an individual, select ‘Find Friends’.

If you have no friends, how?

Consider Googling for a trendy Spotify user to follow then I guess…

9. Sorting

Much like the sorting hat, the Spotify sorting system is also clear-cut and rather unapologetic.

To activate the sorting mechanism, type the word “Not” after your search term to leave out unwanted artists.

On the other hand, use the “+” symbol or “And” to look up those you desire.

10. Daily Mix

Groggy in the morning and looking for some hassle-free playlists to cater to your morning mood?

Meet Spotify’s Daily Mix playlists.

Tailored to your listening habits, these gems promise you a wicked good time, all while combining nostalgia with novelty.
