Sibling rivalry can be difficult to navigate.
Stefanie Sun’s younger sister, Sun Ee Mei, said she is “no longer sisters” with someone.
Netizens believe that she is referring to the famous singer.
Interestingly, this isn’t her first time speaking about a “famous sister”.
“No Longer Sisters”
On 5 January 2024, Ee Mei posted on Chinese social media Weibo.
She wrote, “A day before my birthday, I’d like to say something to those who know me.
“Since 2019, my relationship with someone has faded away. Over the past three years, I’ve tried various methods to communicate with her, and I’m tired.
“From today onwards, I’d like to say that I, who had lived in a shadow for over 20 years and did not have it easy, now just want to be liberated.
“I’m not a celebrity, but I felt like I couldn’t live as a private person. I just want to say I’m no longer sisters with that somebody.
“I don’t want to be embroiled in fans’ discussions and guesswork. Nobody has it easy. I just want to live peacefully. The first half of my life wasn’t easy; please allow me to have my own life for the latter half, and let me have the right to define myself.
“I apologise if I haven’t done well in the 40 years I’ve been a younger sister. I hope the people who hurt me – intentionally or unintentionally – can one day learn from it and find peace. Finally, I’d like to thank those who understand me. I hope everyone stays true to themselves this year and lives a fulfilling life.
#estrangenotstrange.”
Stefanie Sun has yet to respond to the post publicly.
Not the First Time Speaking About Complicated Relationship with Family
Ee Mei is Stefanie Sun’s younger sister.
She studied medicine at the National University of Singapore and now lives in Australia.
Besides Stefanie Sun, Ee Mei has another sister who is reportedly working in the finance industry.
Notably, this isn’t the first time she has posted about her complicated relationship with her family.
In a Weibo post from August 2022, Ee Mei wrote that she had a “really hard time” in Singapore.
She wrote, “I lived between the ages 18-36 under the shadow of my sister’s fame. It’s why I don’t associate being in Singapore with happy memories.”
She added that her parents do not understand her.
She said she invited her parents to visit her in Australia numerous times, but they chose to travel the world instead.
She said, “That is disappointing for me.”
She noted that being a doctor was never her dream but her parents’.
Nonetheless, she “still works hard at it”.
She added, “When I was young, I wanted to save the world at one point. I still hope for that and hope that people can stop judging others by their labels.
“I know that the person I should love and respect most is me. I deserve to give myself a chance to have my dreams come true. As do you.”
On Mother’s Day in 2023, Ee Mei posted a post along similar themes.
She wrote, “For a long while, I had a complicated relationship with my mother. I felt she was disappointed I didn’t want to become a doctor, and society judged me a lot for quitting medical school for a year.
“I think we have found a lot of healing in recent years. I wish all mothers a happy Mother’s Day. And if you have a complicated relationship with your parents, I send you lots of love.”
Private Life Allegedly Disrupted
In her 5 January post, Ee Mei talked about how she has never been able to live a private life.
In October 2022, she posted a call-out post on Weibo about people who allegedly tried taking videos of her when she was just trying to enjoy her lunch.
She wrote, “These people were trying to record me while I was having lunch today. I noticed immediately and confronted them.”
Attached to the post was a photo of the alleged people “cowering in fear”.
She said, “I don’t think I should have to move to Australia and suffer the same things I did in Singapore.
“This is my only way to protect myself as I have not received the protection I needed.”
She added that having a public account of such incidents helped her feel safer.
She wrote, “Respect my privacy in my private time.”
Living in Her Sister’s Shadow
If you haven’t already noticed, there seems to be a consistent theme of Ee Mei alluding to living in her sister’s shadow.
Whether it be in her August 2022 post or 5 January 2024 post, she also alludes to this feeling in other posts.
Prince Harry, the son of King Charles, released a memoir titled Spare in January 2023.
He detailed his experience as the “spare” brother in his memoir.
In it, Prince Harry called his brother, Prince William, the current heir to the British throne, his “beloved brother and arch-nemesis”.
In the book, Prince Harry recounted instances where he felt overshadowed by his brother.
As someone who is not a celebrity, it appears that Ee Mei also relates to this feeling.
In a Weibo post from 7 May 2023, she wrote, “I love Prince Harry. I understand his struggle a lot.
“Of course, I’m not royal, neither am I that famous or important.
“But living in the shadow is hard.
“Go, Prince Harry! In a world that is determined to put a label on you, going your own way is an act of self-love and bravery.
“#princeharry #spare #collapse.”

Notably, it is said that Ee Mei bears a striking resemblance to Stefanie Sun.
Stefanie Sun’s recent posts don’t detail much of her personal life.
Her most recent post is a dedication to the new year.
