Stories of A&W Opening in Westgate is Not True, So Don’t Rush There

2018 has been a bust what with the GST hike, the 10% increase in tobacco excise duty and the taxation of digital services.

So while I sit here thinking 2018 is such a hot mess, the optimistic side of my brain reminded me of something.

A&W is returning this year!

Yes, it was confirmed last year and every Singaporean went bersek—especially the 90s kids.

And now, there has been a rumour floating around that A&W made its comeback in the West of Singapore—Westgate.

Before you uber down to Westgate to be disappointed, in the words of Donald Trump, it is fake news.

How did it start

As of writing time, it is unclear how it all started but according to a Hardwarezone thread, someone posted a picture of A&W on their IG story with the caption that read: “At least they have opened the first SG branch at Westgate.”

The picture was also geotagged at Westgate.

From the picture alone, one can be easily fooled.

Fortunately, a handful of woke netizens manage to quell the rumour, commenting that the picture in question was actually taken at AEON Bukit Indah which is in JB.

Even, Twitter maven, Xavier Lur squashed the rumour with one single tweet.

And all his points are valid af.

But the geotag?

Yes, for those who are wondering how the user manager to geotag the picture at Westgate, there is a simple explanation for it.

You can upload a 24-hour old picture to your IG story, regardless where it was taken, and you can geotag the picture depending on where you are at.

Which means to say that the said user might have taken the picture at AEON Bukit Indah and he/she might have been near Westgate when the picture was uploaded.

So, for those who can’t wait for A&W to open in Singapore, you know what to do.

It’s time to make a quick trip to JB!
