After a barrage of angry comments about the overly-sexualised nature of their orientation camps (and this leaked video making its way onto the Internet), NUS finally announced yesterday that this year’s “O Week” was to be cancelled – much to the chagrin of freshmen and seniors alike.
Many of them have taken to Facebook-hosted confession page NUSWhispers to state their stand, where we picked out a few that best represented the consensus among various groups of students.
And as for who’s right and who’s wrong? We’ll leave that to your own discretion.
1. Student should learn to speak up when uncomfortable; don’t just conform to peer pressure
2. This year’s cancellation was a necessary stopgap measure
3. Games got too “rabak”; more offensive than fun
4. Conducting surprise checks would be a better solution than banning camps entirely
5. Blaming TNP for starting up a “shitstorm”
6. Students should host their own O Week; don’t deprive freshmen of the experience
7. Possible to have a fun camp that doesn’t include lewd activities
