There are three things in life that are imperative for survival—food, water and mobile phones.

The last one will take precedence over the first two, obviously.

We can text, surf the net and social media, take pictures, and watch our favourite movies, so unknowingly, you end up spending hours on your mobile phone.

It’s highly possible that you’re reading this with your three middle fingers behind the phone while your pinky finger is holding the bottom part.

Or…

You could be fiddling with your phone with just one hand coz you’re a champ.

There are numerous studies on the harmful side effects of using the mobile phone regularly but does that stop us?

But how about the way we use our phone? Is it, like, better to use both hands? Or if you’ve three hands, to use three hands?

One Hand Mobile Phone = Damage X 99

There is a study by National Taiwan University Hospital, claiming that using one hand to play with your mobile phone for a long period of time will cause the most damage to your body.

Over time, your muscles will contract more and you will end up putting more pressure on one hand and the thumb which will lead to aches and pains.

Leung Wai Man, a physician in the aforementioned hospital mentioned that all of the positions (the way you use your phone) have its cons but using your phone with one hand has to be the worst.

Additionally, she also mentioned that mobile phones can cause neck pains.

We typically would hunch over to use our phone—“increasing the neck flexion angle by 15 degrees”.

How to fix it?

Well, take breaks of course.

Strangely enough, Wai Man mentioned that it is better to use a computer as it will cause less damage to your body.

Either way, everything is going to kill us slowly.

The chief ophthalmologist in National Taiwan University Hospital, Yang Changhao mentioned that it is best not to face the screen too long as the blue light from the screen damages retinal cells and, most importantly, interrupts your sleep cycle.

But of course, if you’re reading this on the Goody Feed app and if you’re using the Android version, you can switch to dark mode which is more comfortable to your eyes.

iOS users, we’ve not forgotten about you: we’re still in the midst of coding the dark mode for you!

Also try to take mini breaks in between, stretch your hand muscles and stare at something far away, like your hopes and dreams.
