Unlike an iPhone or any tech gadget, when you purchase a food item that has been heavily advertised, it almost always looks like an ugly, deformed twin of the one pictured in the ad.
All we ask is that it doesn’t look like it belongs to an entirely different food group and that it tastes good.
But sometimes, these irregularities are hard to stomach, especially when you’ve paid good money for them.
And one recent order from Sugary Kneads Co might just take the cake.
S’pore Home Bakery Delivers Doughnuts Which Look Nothing Like the Ones Advertised
Like many online spats these days, it all started with a post on Facebook.
According to user Lita Bear, she had ordered some doughnuts from Sugary Kneads Co, a local home-based bakery, for a Teacher’s Day celebration in school.
Things didn’t exactly get off to a good start, as her order only arrived at 7pm when it was due to be delivered between 8am to 12pm.
It was also delivered to Lita’s home instead of her school.
But that wasn’t the worst of it. When she opened the box, Lita must have wondered if she had accidentally ordered some raw bananas over a mountain of fried dough balls.
The other doughnuts were also less than appetizing.
When she raised the issue with the bakery, it insisted that the doughnuts were “safe to eat” and that no one had complained about this issue before.
The bakery later refunded her, but apparently didn’t offer any apologies.
The bakery also uploaded an Instagram story where they claimed that Lita had threatened her.
Lita, however, thinks the bakery is “playing the victim”.
Not the Only Incident
In the past week, two other unsatisfied customers have taken to social media to complain about Sugary Kneads Co.
In one instance, a couple who ordered a wedding cake from the bakery complained that it looked nothing like the one they asked for.
The couple had paid $330 and ordered a cookie cake which looked something like this:
“We don’t expect it to be replicated to the exact same but what we received was a nightmare,” the best friend of the bride said in a lengthy post on Facebook.
Here was the final product:
Fortunately, they too were fully refunded.
The latest complaint against the bakery was shared on Facebook by an aggrieved customer yesterday, describing an encounter with the bakery in May this year as the “final straw”.
At the time, the woman had made an order from Sugary Kneads Co and decided to collect the order herself. When she turned up, she was asked to wait outside the door, but the baker never reappeared.
While she was waiting at the door, the baker sent her sister a message, asking if they could deliver it the next day.
The customer, understandably, was not pleased.
The bakery ended up refunding her and apologising, but the woman was not appeased, as she felt “disrespected”.
“No one should be treated like this…” the woman wrote.
The bakery explained that they were making a new batch of pastries when the customer arrived. They did open the door, later on, to check up on her, but she had already left, it said.
Threats
According to Mothership, the bakery has since received a barrage of negative comments and threats from other customers, with some allegedly threatening to assault them.
It said it would be lodging a police report for harassment.
“We have made a full refund and apologise tremendously to those who were affected with our service,” it said.
“We have done to the best of our ability as a company. We sincerely apologise to all once again.”
The aggrieved customers have warned netizens to be careful of who they place orders with, especially since some of their desserts and pastries were for momentous occasions.
