42YO Driver Mangled His Supercar in an Accident Along ECP

Always keep your eyes on the road.

Whether it’s due to negligence, recklessness, or complacency, even the most skilled of drivers can get into accidents if they don’t take road safety seriously.

And more often than not, those involved in such accidents end up getting hurt.

42YO Driver Mangled His Supercar in an Accident Along ECP

At 7.09am yesterday, the police were alerted to an accident that took place along the East Coast Parkway (ECP) towards Changi.

When officers arrived on the scene, they found a mangled car nestled among potted plants, as well as a male driver.

According to the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) the 42-year-old driver was conveyed to Raffles hospital while conscious.

A video of the accident’s aftermath was later shared on the Facebook page ROADS.sg, showing a white, disfigured car in a bush of potted plants.

ROADS.sg earlier shared pictures of the mangled car remains.

It is believed that the car crashed into the potted plants that cover the expressway’s divider, causing extensive damage.

It’s unclear what caused the accident. Investigations are ongoing.

Some netizens identified the car carcass as a McLaren 720S model, which is often referred to as a “supercar”.

The car, which can go up to 100km/h in 2.9 seconds, costs around S$1 million when brand new.

Alleged Witness: Car Was Speeding

A netizen who commented on the post claimed to have witnessed the accident.

He said he was jogging along ECP’s running path when he heard the car speeding past.

“I was just thinking what a cool car, and then 1 second later, the car hit something and flew off the road!” he wrote.

“I heard loud noises of metal breaking apart and the parts disappeared into boxes of plants and over the other side.”

A Truck Mysteriously Caught Fire on PIE Near Bedok

Another more mysterious accident occurred on an expressway last month.

On 7 June, a truck caught fire on the Pan Island Expressway (PIE).

SCDF said it was alerted to the fire at about 12.25am on the PIE towards Changi Airport, just before the Bedok Reservoir Road exit.

A journalist from TODAYonline who passed by the scene also testified to seeing a truck engulfed in smoke and flames.

The SCDF said that the fire was eventually extinguished using two water jets.

The driver, a man in his 40s, was conveyed to Changi General Hospital (CGH) in Simei.

However, CGH said it could not comment on the victim’s condition due to patient confidentiality. As such, the man’s condition is unknown.

SCDF did not detail what the truck had been transporting.
