They’re the perfect match for each other.
It’s the meeting of neta (ネタ, the thing placed on top of sushi) and shari (シャリ, or sushi rice)… or what we know as sushi.
And because love makes the world go round, it’s conveyor belt sushi or Kaiten Sushi (回転すし).
Too poor for love? Well, I’ve got good news for you. Because in Japan, Sushiro is known as the cheapest sushi restaurant, and it’s got the quality and freshness to boot.
And it’s coming to Singapore.
(Okay, there’s probably some random ulu restaurants selling cheaper, but it’s the largest chain)
Japan’s largest Kaiten Sushi chain
Sushiro started 30 years ago and is now the largest chain selling about 1.36 billion sushi plates each year. Oh yeah, just in case you’re confused, I’m not talking about the one at Thomson Plaza that got renamed to Omote.
Singaporeans literally only want 2 things and it’s disgusting. Sushiro got both of them: cheap and good.
In Japan, each plate costs from 100 yen plus tax, with about 80 varieties to choose from. For guaranteed freshness, a part of the conveyor machine detects how long a plate has been on the belt and kicks it off if it’s been there too long.
And did I mention the ingredients are flown in from Japan?
Of course, just because the name is SUSHIro doesn’t mean they only serve sushi. They have tempura, ramen, udon noodles and desserts too.
But how much is 100 yen in S’pore?
Over 100 sushi and dishes from S$2.20
Probably not hard to guess since DAISO is S$2.
Southeast Asia’s first Sushiro store at Singapore will have over 100 different sushi and side menu dishes, starting from S$2.20 to S$5.
Each year, 600 new creations are created and about 70 gets to be seen on the menus after a rigorous internal screening, so you can bet on the menu to be fresh and exciting as time goes.

Huh, we already got Genki, need to be excited meh?
Well if you’re mentioning Genki Sushi, you’re absolutely right! Because Genki Sushi and Sushiro have talked about mergers before, except they didn’t because of differences in strategy.
Cross-checking Genki’s menu shows that they sell Inari and Tamagoyaki at S$1.80, but the fish sushi starts from S$2.30… Hmmm.
That’s right guys. Now we’ve got another one.
