A Taiwanese tourist visiting Singapore has accused a housekeeper at Village Hotel Sentosa of stealing S$3,000 in cash from his room, sparking a police investigation that remains active.
The Incident
Chang Shuoyang, a 28-year-old property agent from Taiwan, checked into Village Hotel Sentosa on Thursday evening, 16 Oct 2025.
He placed approximately S$3,000 in cash inside a Marina Bay Sands plastic bag and left it on a white counter in his hotel room before heading out to Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios Singapore.
Chang discovered the money missing on Friday, 17 Oct 2025. He posted about the incident on Threads, writing in Chinese that he “felt so helpless” when the hotel manager insisted he really trusts his staff and there was no way such an incident would happen.
Police Search and Discovery
The hotel manager directed Chang to search through the garbage bins, which he did until police arrived at the scene. Officers responded to a call for assistance at 10 Artillery Avenue, the address of Village Hotel Sentosa, at 1:35pm on 17 Oct 2025.
Police conducted a search of a housekeeper and her storage locker, where they reportedly found the same Marina Bay Sands plastic bag that Chang had used to store his cash. “The hotel manager was really shocked when the police found the plastic bag I used to put my cash. Because the Sentosa hotel would not have a Marina Bay Sands bag!” Chang wrote in his post.
Investigation
A 34-year-old woman is currently assisting police with investigations for the offence of theft in a dwelling. The housekeeper has denied taking the money, but was taken away for further questioning.
Police investigations are ongoing, and Chang said that he has yet to receive any compensation, apology or explanation, reported Mothership.
