Residents at Hougang’s Terrasse Condo sensed something fishy was going on when six members of the public entered the premises’ fish pond at around noon on 16 June 2023.

Armed with fishnets and other fishing equipment, the intruders started catching fishes at the pond for about 2 hours until security was notified by understandably angry residents.

52-year-old Mr Lin (Hanyu Pinyin), who is currently self-employed, had told Shin Min Daily News that the fishes were a beloved mainstay for the residents who fed them regularly, and that no one is allowed to let the public come in and fish without authorization.

“Even if the management wants to clean the pond, the residents should at least be notified, but everyone had not received any such notification. If the public is allowed to enter the apartment at will, it is a potential threat to the apartment environment and residents,” said Mr Lin

So, what the fish happened?

Mysterious Post Asked Members of the Public to Catch the Fish for Free

Mr Lin shared that the entire incident was sparked from a post left by a resident on the condo’s online platform.

The post claimed that the management staff wanted to remove the fishes from the pond, and that members of the public who were interested were allowed to catch the fish for free.

To any person with a shred of common sense, free fish from a condo pond definitely sounds…fishy. Even the freshwater fishing at ORTO charges a fee for customers to wrangle their fish.

But the six trespassers must have not gotten the memo, or maybe they wanted to channel their inner otter instincts.

Management Staff of Condominium Did Not Authorize Anyone to Post on Their Behalf & Did Not Authorize Removal of Fish Either

Shin Min Daily News later arranged an interview with the manager who manages the condo.

When asked about the matter, he explained that the management had neither issued any authorization for residents to post information on the internet on their behalf, nor had they allowed the public to enter the condominium to fish.

As for the resident who left the misleading post up on the internet for aspiring anglers to misinterpret, he said that incident is still under investigation and it was not convenient to disclose any further details.

That is fishy.

For now, let’s hope that the truth is fished out soon.
