As the majority of Singaporeans would attest to…
The country has been ****ing hot of late.
Indeed, one can’t help but perspire the minute he/she steps outdoors, and even then there’s no guarantee that they won’t feel rain pattering the back of their heads at the same time.
Such is the excruciating weather Singaporeans have to face… for the rest of April.
A real bummer, that’s for sure.
And yet, even with Singapore’s period-like symptoms playing tricks on all of us, I would still choose to stay in these volatile weather conditions than say, go holidaying in Thailand.
Sawasdee: Are you crazy-ka? Thailand cheap, cheap, good, good, why you not want to come Thailand-ka?
Well, while Thailand’s definitely a great holiday getaway…
Now’s simply not the best time to go, considering how temperatures are expected to reach as high as 43 degrees Celsius over there.
Sawasdee: … Singapore cool, cool, sweet, sweet-ka. Sawadeeka come over-ka?
It’s a heatwave over there
Lest you’re unaware, our favourite holiday destination, Thailand, is experiencing a real heatwave now, with temperatures expected to reach as high as 43 degrees Celsius over in the North.
In fact, according to World Of Buzz, the heat has been so excruciating that pets have actually been succumbing to it.
According to Pong Techapongtada, a veterinarian at the Thonglor Pet Hospital, many pet owners have been rushing their furkids to the emergency room almost every day. However, while some managed to survive the ordeal, others were too late for the treatment…
Like this Siberian Husky called Lucky.
Having been on a vacation, the owner, who operates a pet store, soon realised that it’s sick and quickly drove back for treatment. However, the treatment came too late, and Lucky died a day later.
“Have fun running and playing in heaven, Lucky. Rest in Peace,” the owners wrote on their Facebook page.
With over 13,000 shares and counting, the post has gone viral, with multiple pet lovers sharing their tragic experiences. A two-month-old puppy had succumbed to the heat recently, while another managed to survive after the owner showered her with cold water repeatedly.
Other pets like gerbils, hamsters and cats have also been experiencing the same situation.
Overall, it seems that there are a few tell-tale signs that a pet’s in danger, with nosebleeds, excessive panting, drooling, trouble breathing, irregular heartbeat, vomiting, puking blood, weakness, stupor or collapsing, seizures and bloody diarrhoea amongst the chief indicators.
According to World Of Buzz, one can try to cool down their pet by wrapping the furkid in towels soaked in lukewarm water and situating them in front of a fan to bring their temperature down.
While cold water might’ve seen its fair share of results, it can actually be a shock to their system and isn’t advisable. Professional medical advice should always be sought even after the pet has cooled down, in case more treatment is required.
And humans aren’t spared too
According to The Nation, one Thai woman’s mobile phone actually exploded when she accidentally left it in the car, leaving her windshield burnt and blackened.
And while we’ll like to point fingers, I really don’t think it’s a Samsung Galaxy S7 so screw you Mr Sun, stop being so goddamn hot already.
On a serious note, however, Thailand-based personnel are advised to stay in the shade and avoid vigorous outdoor activities.
So… Thailand?
While I would love to spend some time in Thailand, just enjoying the feel of being a tourist instead of the feel of a part-timer worker cum student, the fact remains that with such swelteringly hot weather…
I think I’ll just slog it out a bit more.
But to those who already had plans for Thailand, just be careful of the heat. Always stay hydrated, and even better, wear sunscreen.
Because with all those UV rays coming in, your face is gonna get an Asian flush if you haven’t already.
